Pair of acceptance certificates issued The Chinese state-owned steel producer Shandong Iron and Steel Group Co Ltd (SGIS) has issued to Friedrich Kocks GmbH the FAC (final acceptance certificate) for its three-roll reducing and sizing block (RSB) 500++/4 in 5.0 design.

The new medium section bar mill at Laiwu works has implemented the Kocks RSB 500++/4, including size control system, a 4D Eagle profile gauge and the design and closed-loop auto- mation for the low-temperature rolling process. The RSB produces SBQ products within a range of Ø 50 to 130mm. Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel Company Co Ltd (TISCO), China, has also granted an FAC to Kocks for its new RSB 5.0.

Celebrating Women’s History Month throughout the industry

When submitting a technical paper abstract, authors have the option for their paper presentation to be included in this session. In a historically male-dominated industry, many IWCS stakeholders – authors, presenters, students, event attendees, sponsors and exhibitors – are women. The IWCS technical paper archives show a sizable amount of papers from female authors, and IWCS is committed to continuing to increase female participation. According to the most recent occupa tion report published by National Science Foundation/National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES), only 29 per cent of science and engineering jobs are occupied by women. In March, IWCS celebrated Women’s History Month. According to The Library of Congress, Women’s History Month is about “…commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.” In recognition of this month of awareness, IWCS highlighted significant achievements and contributions that have been made by women. The 71 st IWCS Cable & Connectivity Industry Forum, taking place 10-13 October in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, will feature several new event components that recognise the contributions women have made to advance the industry. One example is a technical symposium session that will feature papers contrib uted by women.
