New opportunity from renewable energy cables The expansion of green power applications has provided global cable makers with a range of new business opportunities. As an extrusion and packing machine supplier for the wire and cable industry in China, Singcheer is aiming to follow this trend with solutions for its customers. Renewable energy encompasses areas such as solar and wind, electric vehicles/ infrastructure and battery storage systems, and renewable energy cables are used for the power transmission, distribution and generation. Solar and wind farms are often large-scale projects requiring durable cable products that can resist prolonged exposure to intense environmental elements, including direct sunlight, temperature fluctuation, corrosive moisture and airborne particles. In accordance with the extrusion characteristics of XLPO+HFFR compounds, which are mainly used for solar cables, Singcheer has developed special extruders to improve production efficiency. The grooved barrel surface and high power blowers ensure the dissipation of shear heat during the extrusion process, so the extrusion temperature is well controlled. The combination of proper screw and spirally grooved feeding zone improves linearity of output and increases the output to ensure a production speed of up to 300m/min (4mm 2 PV wire, tandem extrusion for insulation and sheath). The fixed centring crossheads by Singcheer are another feature of the tandem extrusion line for solar cables. The concentricity of the insulation and sheath by the tandem line is claimed to be greater than 95 per cent, and the

chambers with heating temperatures up to 600°C for the curing process. All the curing chambers are opened and closed by pneumatic cylinders for automatic production. If the wire breaks or the machine stops, the chambers open immediately to avoid overheating the cables inside. During the curing process, it is necessary to ensure the cable is heated evenly around the surface. Singcheer engineers have designed a layout of infrared heating tubes that ensures this uniform heating. A temperature control system with precise sensors and thyristors ensures temperature control accuracy at ±1°C. For a typical 70mm 2 HV cable, the maximum production speed is 25m/min (by platinum curing agent). All Singcheer extrusion lines are equip- ped with the latest SiCAT control system, which is independently developed by Singcheer. SiCAT can collect data and receive MES instructions from an ERP system. All the process and equipment parameters can be transmitted to the production management system via cloud. In order to provide sufficient charging points for the expanding electric vehicle (EV) market, there will be increased demand for EV charging cables. Singcheer EVC cable solutions, including insulation and sheath lines, cover all the products based on ICE/EN, UL, PSE and China’s GB/CQC standards. Singcheer produces extrusion lines for TPU sheath, THHN insulation, HFFR sheath, and PVC insulation and sheath. Battery cables and technology are growing in importance for a number of industries, and they play a key role in emerging technologies. High-quality silicone rubber cable is a typical product in this application. Infrared curing is an efficient solution for silicone rubber cable. Singcheer’s infrared curing system consists of two parts. The first is one or two one-metre curing chambers (shock ovens) with infrared heating elements for up to 800°C. The surface of the cable can be quickly shaped and cured by impact heating to ensure that there is no damage to the cable surface when passing the guide rollers.
