Smart software for non-destructive testing Contrôle Mesure Systèmes (CMS), a French designer and manufacturer of non-destructive control systems, has developed software called Probus.

equipment, in order to display signals, make sorting decisions and create inspection reports. In a non-destructive testing system, Probus is a decision- making centre, centralising all the sensor data of the line, and is able to control the actuators on the test bench. The software connects directly with the automation of the control bench, which it serves as a man-machine interface. The Probus software ensures the trace- ability of production with the creation of product or batch inspection reports. These reports can be presented by the quality services as proof of control, and can include the list of defects detected, with their positions. Alarm thresholds can be set on the software for each channel. When a signal passes the alarm, it is detected on the screen and the product is

considered defective. The supervision software can handle several types of signals, including US signal used in fault detection, US signal used in thickness measurement, and EC signal. Probus can also manage the good/ bad sorting of products and/or control the marking system. The software can be combined with systems from other brands, including ultrasound and eddy current rotating heads, EC coil holders and magnetisation/demagnetisation units. Because Probus is able to collect all analogue signals, Contrôle Mesure Systèmes can easily integrate it on an obsolete bench to revamp the installation. Contrôle Mesure Systèmes www.cmseddyscan.com

High-speed spooler improves output at Asta DEM has supplied to Asta of Austria a spooler designed for operation at 1,200m/min, with special features to provide perfect layer winding of copper profiles, including some as small as 1.5 x 0.5mm.

Cable machine manufacturing Shree Ambika Cable Machine is a supplier and exporter of cable and conductor machinery based in India. Since 1992, the company has devel- oped and supplied high-speed aluminium and copper rod breakdown machines (single/double rod) and fine wire drawing machines for copper and aluminium (single or multi) without annealer. The new unit has replaced a spooler installed on a non-DEM line. New software and hardware are part of the DEM package, and the replacement and industrial start- up took place within just one week from delivery. The traverse coiling achieved with the new spooler plays a key role in the unwinding during downstream enamelling operations, providing a continuous and uniform unspooling speed and contributing to a regular coating along the conductor length.
