‘Greener’ options for welding rod Cold welding has benefits for manufac- turers seeking sustainable solutions for welding non-ferrous rod. The process is more straightforward, cleaner and more energy-efficient than electrical butt weld- ing, and creates a metallurgical bond without loss of electrical integrity. The EP500, for non-ferrous rod from 5 to 15mm, can be connected to either a central air supply or a dedicated com- pressor. A single-phase electrical supply (between 100 and 240 volts) is only required for the control system, which the operator uses to set the weld parameters. The machine is also low maintenance, safe and user friendly.

British cold welding equipment manu- facturer PWM is experiencing demand for its rod welding machines, with sales of its pneumatically powered EP500 rod welder having more than doubled during the last year.

For welding larger rod sizes – 15 to 30mm in diameter – PWM’s P1500 electro/ hydraulic cold welder is equally simple to operate. Powered by three hydraulic pumps, the P1500 only requires electrical power for the 11kW pump motor. The intuitive interface makes programming straightforward, and the machine incorporates a de-flashing mechanism. The smaller, hydraulically powered P1000 rod welder has a compact footprint of 1,100 x 1,245mm. Designed for welding rod from 6 to 16mm, it has quick-release dies and an easily adjustable die setting mechanism. PWM cold welding machines and dies are designed, built and tested in-house. The company specialises in custom-made
