Alcatel-Lucent has announced its decision not to sell the undersea cables unit. The business will now be taken over by Nokia on its acquisition of the group. Nokia first revealed the planned $17 billion acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent in April as it aims to better compete with Ericsson and Huawei. Alcatel had previously said it planned to sell a majority stake in Alcatel-Lucent submarine networks (ASN) or list the business separately, but has chosen to retain it. The ASN division, which has facilities in France and England, will become part of the new Nokia group once the acquisition is complete. ASN has over 575,000km of fiber optic cable systems deployed worldwide, with the maintenance of 330,000km of undersea systems.
