IWMA Golf Day The ever popular IWMA annual golf day will take place onWednesday 10 th June 2009 at the very well appointed course at Fairhaven Golf Club in Royal Lytham St Annes in the northwest of England. The Fairhaven website is www.fairhavengolfclub.co.uk This event has featured in the IWMA’s list of social events for many of the IWMA’s 40 years’ existence and has been at Fairhaven for the last 18 years, a sure sign of the popularity of this highly challenging course that has in the past been used for qualifying tournaments for the Open Golf Championship. The format of the day is a Stableford match, ideal for giving both low and high handicap players equal opportunities to win either the Chairman’s Cup for members or the Guest Shield for their guests. Following an invariably enjoyable day of competition a Golf Dinner, hosted by ‘Captain of Golf’ Don Tucker is held at the Glendower Hotel on the St Annes seafront. Thanks to the generosity of many IWMA member organisations and individuals there is always a fine selection of prizes for first, second and third places for both guests and members as well as for ‘nearest the pin’, ‘longest drive’ and ‘two’s’. The IWMA is very grateful to all sponsors for their continuing support for the event. In 2008 the Chairman’s Cup was won by Mr I Wood of Bridon and the Guest Shield by Mr S Ellis of B3 Cables. The IWMA certainly hopes to see the return of both gentlemen to defend their titles this year. For more information or to book for this popular event please contact the IWMA Secretariat.

IPEC UltraSense monitor for EHV power cable

to the end of the CV tube, gives early information on the quality of the cable in production, an improvement on the period of weeks before the reels of cable have been de-gassed and subjected to partial discharge testing. The knowledge of the production process is significantly enhanced by mapping every millimetre of the inner semiconductor interface and by giving a continuous readout of all the dimensional parameters that are typically only measured on the cross-section of the cable each time it is cut. This data is stored and can be used to create reel reports and also for post analysis using IPEC data analysis software. Another aspect of the monitor that found favour with visitors to the show was its network capability, including remote operation of the monitor from the control room, remote monitoring by production management and diagnosis and online training from IPEC offices in Manchester. These facilities help in the dissemination of information and in the ease of introduction and use of the equipment. IPEC Ltd – UK Fax : +44 161 226 0046

Following an enthusiastic reception at wire08 for the UltraSense monitor for Extra High Voltage power cable, IPEC Ltd has announced the shipment of its latest monitor to a major manufacturer of EHV cable in Egypt. Despite the current uncertainty in the world economy, the market for High and Extra High voltage power cable remains buoyant. Key drivers include the provision of cabling for the generation of power from renewable resources, undersea cabling for load-sharing and continued implementationof infrastructure projects.
