The IWMA Trust Fund, a charitable organisation registered in the UK, was founded for the purpose of supporting education and training in the wire and cable industry worldwide for the next generation of wire and cable professionals. Its funds are maintained by the IWMA, which makes an annual donation to the Trust. A board of trustees drawn from the industry administers the charity and decides upon all awards made to individuals or organisations, according to a strict set of conditions. There are two main elements to the work of the Trust. Its main activity is the awarding of scholarships of up to US$24,000 or its equivalent, over a two-year period to an institute, training organisation, university, college or similar establishment to assist an individual or group of trainees, students or apprentices engaged in study, research or training activities related to the wire, cable or wire product industries. The Walter Niehoff Scholarship scheme is named in memory of a founder member and past president of the IWMA.
