literally connect both the world and the sum of human knowledge. It’s an extraordinary progression. “The IWMA is right there with the industry, disseminating technical knowledge, helping members at exhibitions and with international representation, and taking a role in the education of tomorrow’s wire and cable engineers and scientists.” International Wire and Machinery Association www.iwma.org Lukas Anlagenbau GmbH, a family- owned manufacturer from Germany, produces customer-specific equip- ment for the wire and cable industry. The focus of the company’s products is on complete taping lines with taping materials such as PTFE, Kapton, mica, paper or metal. The International Wire and Machinery Association is celebrating its 50 th anniversary year with a bold new look for the new decade. The world’s largest and most influential corporate membership body for wire and cable industries will sport a new logo, new corporate colours and an entire brand tool kit, among other changes. The IWMA was founded in the UK in 1970 by a group of industry leaders, and today promotes the interests of hundreds of corporate members, from global, billion-dollar industries to micro-companies offering specialist services on a small scale. The IWMA includes one of the world’s oldest wire-making companies as a member – Webster and Horsfall of Birmingham, UK – this year celebrating its 300 th anniversary. Explaining the rebrand as part of a forward-looking strategy, executive manager Andy Lewis said, “Over the past couple of years we have been changing our internal structures to make ourselves more useful and vital to members, and the rebrand is the IWMA pointing itself at the 2020s and beyond, so we can be a broader, even more involved association.” The rebrand also extends to a redesign of the exhibition stand seen at major wire and cable exhibitions around the world, and the IWMA newsletter, WCN , has also been given a new look. Association chairman Martin Van Der Zwan commented, “This a major milestone in the life of a body that started very small, with just a handful of industry leaders who saw that wire and cable was an under-represented sector of a growing industry. “Today we see just how much the industry has grown in that 50 years, driving modern communication systems, transport infrastructure and the Internet – wire and cable products

❍ The compact Easy-Wiretemp system

Based on this method the Lune systems determine the temperature within milliseconds on any kind of wire, cable or conductor. The material can be any type of metal or non-metal. The system does not require any settings or calibration, and is easy to use on almost any diameter (75 micron or greater). Lune recently introduced a new product for contact-free temperature measurement. The Easy-Wiretemp is a compact system to accurately measure the temperature of con- ductor, cable, wire or fibre in a production line. The company originally planned to launch the product at the 2020 wire show in Düsseldorf, Germany. As that exhibition was postponed until December, the Lune team will be showing the new product for the first time at wire China in Shanghai. Lune is exhibiting together with its long-term partner Kunshan Jierongfa Test Control Equipment Co Ltd. The Easy-Wiretemp is Lune’s first integrated system. Sensor head and controller electronics are housed in one box. Despite the compact design, Lune has incorporated its CHF method.

❍ Lukas Anlagenbau taping line

The product range covers single components like payoffs, capstans, caterpillars, sintering ovens and take-ups, to complete rewinding lines and fine wire drawing lines for non-ferrous materials. In October 2019, Lukas took over the business of Erwin Neumann Drahtveredelungstechnik GmbH, Germany, extending its product range with electrolytic single wire-plating lines for tin, silver, nickel and copper. The current product highlight is the horizontal taping machine. With a new drive concept, Lukas ensures improvement of quality in taping technology. The design of the components has also been
