Solar project floated Indian company Vikram Solar Ltd, a module manufacturer and EPC company, has a new order for a 1MW floating photovoltaic (FPV) plant for Hindustan Zinc Ltd. The plant will be located at Ghosunda Dam, near Chittorgarh, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. This will be Vikram Solar’s second floating solar project – the first was installed in 2015 in Kolkata, West Bengal. This project will be among the first MW-scale floating projects in India for the Indian private sector. Benefits of the floating plant include its contribution to saving water evaporation loss, thus resulting in conservation of water; a reduction in algae development, so maintaining water cleanliness; and a saving of land space. The installation will use Vikram Solar’s 330Wp 72-cell Eldora polycrystalline modules. It is expected to be commissioned by July 2019 and will have an energy yield of 1,993MWh per year. Becoming India’s first large-scale telecommunications equipment manufacturing facility to receive Intertek’s Zero Waste to Landfill Certification is a recognition of our consistent efforts in being responsible to the community and the environment,” said Akanksha Sharma, head of CSR and sustainability at Sterlite. Sterlite Tech’s glass and optical fibre manufacturing plant in Aurangabad, and its speciality cable manufacturing plant in Dadra, India, have been given Intertek’s Near-Zero Waste to Landfill certifications for diverting over 95 per cent waste from landfill.

The proposed coke oven complex will be similar to its existing unit, consisting of a 7m-tall 67-coke-oven battery with 0.88 million tonne per annum capacity. The new 25MW power plant will add to the current 62.5MW capacity unit, while the TMT and wire rod mill will be part of its plan for value-added production. Mayor Hakim has said the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (CMC) will destroy any cables that were not removed. “Our teams will visit … to check the situation. We have asked cable operators to accompany us. They can tell us which of the cables hanging overhead are defunct ones,” a civic official confirmed. Cable television, broadband and even trams contribute to Kolkata’s overhead wires, and it is often difficult to distinguish one line from another.
