control system Rio, coupled with SmartCall service support. RoSET (Rosendahl Superior Extrusion Technology) is also an example of these developments. RoSET is a new solution for MV cable production that uses polypropylene-based compounds – something that has not been commercially available so far. Optical fibre production is a segment where the limits are continually pushed towards faster, better and stronger solutions. The company’s Vantaa-based OVD and VAD preform R&D centre is constantly testing and improving the technology to maintain and extend boost limits. The company will reveal the optical fibre performance possible with Schlatter is moving mesh production to a new level, with an annual production of 80,000 to 100,000 tons being possible by using only two mesh welding machines, despite the multiple variants of mesh types with many different wire diameters. This is done by using the optimised high-efficiency MG316 mesh welding machine and the newly developed, highly flexible MG800 mesh welding machine. This combination allows flexible production development and low processing costs. Schlatter states that conventional mesh production will be revolutionised by this new concept. The production quantities of three or even four machines can now be realised with only two mesh welding machines. The reduction of changeover and reel exchange times increases the effective production time of the machinery. Fewer machines also means a reduction in personnel, maintenance and energy costs. At the same time, space requirements and spare parts inventory are decreased. With the productive MG316d, products can be manufactured at a capacity of 200 cross wires per minute. The welding machine, equipped with direct welding groups, does not need resetting in the welding portal sector. The flexible MG800 can change over to a different mesh type with a minor production stop of 30 seconds Nextrom’s preform technology. Sikora is a manufacturer and supplier of online measuring, control, inspection, analysis and sorting technologies for the wire and cable, optical fibre, hose and tube, sheets, metals and plastics industries. Its technology is used for increasing quality, process optimisation and efficiency in manufacturing. At wire 2020, Sikora will present laser and X-ray technologies that precisely and reliably measure product parameters such as diameter, ovality, wall thickness and concentricity. The company’s product portfolio includes spark testers for the detection of insulation faults, lump detectors for the detection of faults on the product surface, capacity measuring systems, and devices for conductor preheating and temperature measurement/control. Systems for online and offline inspection, sorting and analysis of raw material, eg for the insulation of high voltage cables, round off the product range. With the X-ray based X-Ray 8000 Advanced, Sikora will showcase at wire 2020 the High-Speed Technology (HST) that is tailored to the demands of MV, HV and EHV cable production. It represents an advanced alternative to the X-Ray 8000 NXT. The system is equipped with 16 measuring sensors and measures the diameter, wall thickness and eccentricity of cables in CV lines up to ten times faster than the X-Ray 8000 NXT, for more efficient control and information transparency in terms of Industry 4.0. With the Fiber Series 6000, Sikora will present a wide range of measuring systems for quality control of optical

Commitment, and technological evolutions will be the core topics of Rosendahl Nextrom’s presentation. The market has reached a new level of technology. Digitalisation is in full swing in the cable business and sustainability is an ever-present buzzword. As an Austrian and Finnish supplier whose environmental, technological and safety standards must comply with strict regulations, these developments have become a foundation for Rosendahl Nextrom. The company will demonstrate this during wire, by means of its smart line ❍ Nextrom provides technology for OVD and VAD preform production transparency
