Launch of the X-Ray 8000 Advanced

WITH the X-Ray 8000 Advanced, Sikora has introduced a system with high-speed technology that is tailored to the requirements of Industry 4.0. It represents an advanced alternative to the established X-Ray 8000 NXT. The system – equipped with 16 measuring sensors – measures the diameter, wall thickness and eccentricity of MV, HV and EHV cables in CV lines by a factor of up to ten times faster than the X-Ray 8000 NXT, and thus, is designed for efficient control. The advantages resulting from the centring and each change of the centring screws is immediately registered and visualised. With four times the number of measuring points, compared to the NXT system, the X-Ray 8000 Advanced simultaneously measures without delay and offers immediate control. Both factors optimise the process and ensure the highest quality of the cables, at maximum material and cost savings. The high speed technology (HST) is the latest innovation from Sikora. The focus is on efficiency enhancement due to a fast centring and automatic control of the product parameters. The basis for this are quick and reliable measuring values with the HST. For a fast update of the scan data, the system optimises the scanning time by automatically adapting the scan path to the cable diameter. This allows the X-Ray 8000 Advanced to contribute to quality assurance and process

1,450ºF electric tempering furnace

No. 837 is a 1,450ºF electrically heated tempering furnace from Grieve, currently used for pre-heating prior to welding and various post-welding heat treatments, at a customer’s facility. Workspace dimensions of this furnace are 60" wide x 60" deep x 60" high. 180 kW installed in nickel chrome wire coils, supported by a stainless steel framework, provides heat to the load. A rear wall-mounted, heat-resisting alloy recirculating fan, powered by a 25-hp motor with V-belt drive and water-cooled bearings, is also on-board this unit. Eight-inch-thick insulated walls comprise 3" of 2,300ºF ceramic fibre and 5" block insulation, while 7" floor insulation is made from 5" of 2,300ºF firebrick and 2" of block insulation. No. 837 features an air-operated vertical lift door, as well as numerous safety and control components, including a programming and recording temperature recorder, SCR power controller, manual reset excess temperature controller with separate contactors and a recirculating blower airflow safety switch.
