Joint venture to deliver satellite broadband services across India Digital service provider Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) and SES, a satellite-based content connectivity solutions provider, have formed Jio Space Technology Ltd – a joint venture to deliver next-generation scalable broadband services in India using satellite technology. JPL and SES will own 51 and 49 per cent equity stakes, respectively. The company will use multi-orbit space networks – a combina tion of geostationary and medium Earth orbit satellite constel lations capable of delivering multi-gigabit links and capacity to personal users and businesses across India and neighbouring regions. The joint venture will provide SES’s satellite data and connec tivity services in India, except for certain international aeronau tical and maritime customers who may be served by SES. It will have availability of up to 100 Gbps capacity from SES and will leverage Jio’s position and sales reach in India. As part of the investment plan, an extensive gateway infrastructure will be developed in India. Jio has entered into a multi-year capacity purchase agreement, based on certain milestones along with gateways and equipment purchase with total contract value of around US $100 million.
