Industry news

ESTABLISHED in 1929, Medek & Schörner has been producing cable marking machines and optical fibre coating lines for decades. Due to its close relations within the cable and wire industry, the company is always in touch with new requirements, which are rapidly converted into production concepts. This enables continuous further development. The company not only offers quality and high-performance machines, but its employees are also going a step further to provide reliable customer support and a high standard of after-sales service. Nearly all mechanical, electrical and electronic components are manufactured in-house, making Medek & Schörner largely independent of external suppliers and able to react to customer requirements quickly and efficiently. The company guarantees unlimited availability of spare parts for all its machines, including older and smaller models. The product range begins with simple coding machines and extends all the way to fully automated high-speed production lines using cutting-edge technology. Thanks to the modular construction, the capacity of any system can be increased quickly and significantly by adding or exchanging individual components, even if a system has already been in operation for several years. The 2,065 mile (3,324km) 1,100kV line is designed to transmit 66 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year. The project aims to help meet increasing power demand in industrialised eastern regions and reduce the amount of wasted electricity in the west. Most of the electricity transmitted via the line will come from the Zhundong coal-fired power plant in northern Xinjiang, which has an installed power generation capacity of 28GW. The National Energy Administration last September approved 12 EHV transmission projects, aiming to bring electricity generated by renewable power plants in western China to the east and central regions.
