Maillefer continues to take steps in the digitalisation of manufacturing, and introduces the smart factory and virtual reality experience for real-time optimisation of production. Maillefer’s smart factory combines a physical factory model with additional instrumentation and online diagnostics, enabling the prediction of abnormal process behaviours before critical quality issues take place. With the virtual reality application, a visitor can simulate different production parameters and set-ups applicable in Maillefer factories. To master production competence, Maillefer launches a turnkey solution for factory joint processing and manufacturing. It is a unique way to qualify a submarine cable system. Another novelty in production competence is Smart Dosing, a consultation product that equips line operators with the peroxide and antioxidant self-dosing know-how needed to implement Smart Dosing to the CV lines. For fibre optic cable producers, a new compression technology is being introduced. It allows modelling of the

force transmission (eg drive belts), especially when using certain taping materials. These effects appear as an ‘undulation’ of the diameter of the finished wire product. Lukas has now developed a new drive concept that reduces these effects to a minimum. A hollow shaft drive together with a light weighted carbon head improves the running qualities so that frictional wear is reduced and – as a positive side-effect – the production speed can be significantly increased.
