For carbon steel, Vicafil TS 1550 provides an environmentally friendly salt coating, free from boron salts. Supralub 35 is designed for tube drawing of stainless and carbon steel. The coating is directly applied on bare metal, without previous surface preparation such as zinc phosphate, ensuring cost and time savings. This eco-friendly product, based on dry lubricants, contains no solvent or heavy metal, and does not produce waste such as zinc phosphate sludge. The company also has a range of products for phosphorus diffusion, including a new surface treatment alternative to zinc phosphate for cold heading. Condat’s Extrugliss ® is a cold heading dual purpose oil, for both forming lubrication and machinery lubrication. Conoptica is launching several new production and quality control systems, aimed specifically at the challenges which the shaped die, wire and rod industry face. Conoptica’s shaped die, wire and rod systems can measure the entire 3D and 2D profile of shaped dies and wires with sub-micrometer accuracy, by using advanced optical technology. By performing statistical process control on measurement data, pro- duction speed and quality is enhanced, ensuring that only the best dies are used, which reduces wire breaks and production stoppages. It is necessary to measure both the drawing die and the product for efficient quality control of shaped wires and rods. If the wire or rod dimensions deviate from nominal values, the drawing die might need modification. Conoptica optical quality control systems can measure corresponding parameters for both product and tool to specify the correct drawing die parameters. One of CPA’s most important business fields is the engineering and production of plants for the galvanic plating of wires and bands, which serve the production of steel cord for the auto tyre industry. As one of the technically most challenging technologies in wire production it bears high safety require- ments. The high demands on the quality of the galvanic plating process refer, in particular, to the production of sub- sequently cold-formed steel wires, especially concerning a homogenous layer composition, application quantity and layer thickness.
