In-line quality control for busbar and flat conductors Producing insulated flat copper and aluminium wires, cables or bars is highly complex and requires sophisticated knowledge within the extrusion business. The corresponding measuring tools – for process monitoring and quality control – are the basis for performing at high production capability. Using UMAC® ultrasonic measuring technology, Zumbach offers customised transducer holders that are specifically tailored to insulated flat products. Providing four, six or even more measuring point solutions (to achieve maximum measurement coverage), precise information about the positioning of the conductor bar within the insulation is provided in real time.

With many years of experience in the field of various measuring technologies, Zumbach offers tailor-made solutions for the continuous measurement and monitoring of non-round products, covering dimensional, geometric and wall thickness measurement, insulation fault testing, length and speed monitoring as well as process control. The uniform alignment of wall thickness centrally around the circumference of a profile is critical to the performance of a conductor.

Outside dimensions, profile geometry, insulation defects and length are also important process and quality parameters. Zumbach Electronic AG www.zumbach.com First bar rolled on RSB at Yantai Walsin Steel producer Yantai Walsin Stainless Steel Co in Shandong province, China, has successfully rolled the first bar on its new Kocks RSB® 370++/4. The new sizing block represents the latest advancement in long-product production technology and is designed to deliver surface quality and dimensional accuracy. The new RSB 370++/4 sizing block for Yantai Walsin has four three-roll stand positions for optimal deformation behaviour and yield strength, and is part of a completely new rolling mill for SBQ products. It is positioned after 20 stands in H/V arrangement. The sizing block from Kocks finishes round dimensions from 18 to 100mm, hexagonal dimensions from 18 to 80mm, and feeders for the wire rod line. In addition to the machine, Kocks supplied the roll-shop equipment and its proprietary software solutions. The advanced block enables a new level of efficient production at Walsin Yantai. The RSB is equipped with 4D Eagle® measuring gauge and is connected to Kocks’s Size Control System (SCS®), which allows real-time adjustment of the operating parameters of the rolling block.
