Exhibitors at wire 2022
Spirka Schnellflechter GmbH (SSB) offers a comprehensive product portfolio of 16-, 24-, 32- and 36-carrier braiding machines in vertical and horizontal configurations, as well as machines such as taping units, payoffs and take-ups for reels up to 2,500mm flange diameter. At wire 2022, SSB will exhibit a medium heavy braider – type 16 Fo3 A – in combination with a suitable winding line for heavier copper and steel wires. This braiding machine has an application range for cables up to 45mm and steel and copper wires up to 0.4mm diameter. It is suitable for thread tension up to 35 N, and can handle spools with a maximum flange diameter of 98mm. Spirka Schnellflechter offers numerous payoffs and take-ups for combination with Fo3 braiders, as well as winding lines for these diameters of wire, such as the W 8-910 winder in combination with tailor made driven or rolling payoffs.
Precision flat wire
The main advantage of slit strip is that large width-to-thickness ratios can be produced in a single operation. However, large core lengths – important in multi shift operation – are only possible with increased technical effort: the narrower the strip, the smaller the possible rings. This considerably increases the number of machine set-ups. For widths below 5mm, a tried and tested alternative is cold-rolled precision flat wire. Starting from a precisely defined round wire, the material is rolled thinner and wider over several rolling steps. With a suitable machine park, and by skilfully using large roller diameters (for widening) and medium to small roller diameters (for elongation), an individual, tailor-made flat product can be created. As the round wire is almost endless, the flat wire can also be supplied “endless” on traverse/oscillate wound spools and, in contrast to precision strip, without welding points. In practice, all cold-formable stainless materials can be rolled down to 0.05mm thickness and 0.2mm width, reaching a width-to-thickness ratio of more than 50:1. Thickness tolerances down to ±1 micron and width tolerances down to ±25 micron have been realised. Within one delivery batch, tolerances in tensile strength of ≤75 MPa can be achieved.
The X-Ray 6000 Pro ensures precise measuring and control of cable dimensions
In addition to economic advantages, the environment can be preserved due to reduced waste. With the premiere of the Fiber Tension 6003, Sikora widens its product family for quality control of optical fibres. The gauge head offers fast, reliable and precise tension measurement and control. With a high measuring rate of up to 10 kHz and the application of the birefringence principle, the stand-alone gauge head is suitable for manufacturers of high-end solutions. The Fiber Tension 6003 can be used for optical fibres that are further processed into premium optical fibre cables. It is suitable for both hot and cold measurement of the bare fibre. Maintaining the availability and efficiency of Sikora systems at the customer’s site is a top priority. At wire, the Sikora service team will present the entire range of its service portfolio, from installation and commissioning of devices to consulting and training. Sikora AG www.sikora.net Spirka Schnellflechter GmbH 09 B06 The growing demand for cables with larger diameters for infrastructure pro- jects – shipyard cables, offshore cables, mining cables, renewable energies or e-mobility – is also leading to a greater demand for braiders suitable for larger cable diameters and cross sections.

11 H40 When designing spring elements, one question is whether narrow strip or flat wire offers the best technical solution. Generally, spring steel strip is used for larger widths, and flat wire for smaller widths. Slit strip is usually used from a width-to-thickness ratio of 10:1, down to a rolling ratio of 5:1. For everything below this value, flat wire is generally preferred. Narrow strip is slit from a mother coil into multiple strips and then wound onto single-layer rings (pancake coils). Depending on the application, the steel ribbon is then re-rolled and straightened. In addition, the edges may be de-burred, side rolled or cut round. For longer running lengths, individual strips are welded together.
