ensure high-speed measurements and high accuracy. The company’s sensors can be used on- or off-line for non-contact measurement applications. Cersa-MCI’s first device for fine wire measurement – the LDS – is still in production, available with one or two axes for diameter monitoring during the drawing process or for off-line measurements fitted with its accessories. The device accommodates wires from 5µm to 2mm. For extrusion processes, Cersa-MCI offers the LPS-3-H to monitor diameter and detect lumps and neckdowns in a single product, for larger wire and cable diameters (0.3 to 5mm). This solution combines a diameter gauge and a flaw detector in one box. In 2021, the company released its solution for wire/cable/surface defect detection. The SQM-F is able to detect defects that appear on the surface during the drawing or extrusion process. The high-resolution instrument offers real-time detection of surface defects such as scratches, die marks, impurities, bubbles or particles on the insulation. It works with round prod uct (20µm to 2mm) and metallic surfaces.

The company will be exhibiting a selection of its B-Series spark testers, a range that includes high frequency testers, DC testers, 60 Hz and power mains frequency testers. Clinton makes spark testers for most applications. The new designs combine the latest in control technology with a robust and reliable spark testing platform. All Clinton spark test equipment supports the split electrode design for easy string-up, and digital signal processor (DSP) based voltage regulation and fault detection. The fault circuitry can differentiate between four types of fault conditions: simple pinholes, a series of closely spaced pinholes, direct metal contact from the centre conductor to the electrode, and gross lengths of bare wire. The RC controller is fixed to the unit but can be detached and mounted remotely up to 60m away from the test module/ electrode. It has a large alphanumeric display/user interface and can be rotated in its bracket to accommodate different viewing angles. The display makes configuration of the equipment easy – all configuration parameters can be changed directly from the front panel menu structure. Once configured, the system can be passcode protected. If a local display is not required, or centralised process control is desired, the equipment can be configured and controlled directly from PLCs or computers using Modbus RTU (RS-485 full duplex). Optional communication protocols include Ethernet/IP, Profinet and Profibus, Modbus TCP and analogue communications, making the equipment compatible with previous Clinton equipment with analogue control. When only simple control output is re quired, four sets of relay contacts can provide information without requiring advanced programming. These include “high voltage on” signals to alert opera tors of the presence of high voltage; a fault relay that actuates when a fault is de tected; a “voltage watchdog” that chang es state when the test voltage has risen above or dropped below a pre-set level; and a “bare wire alarm” that signals when long lengths of bare wire are detected. The company will also be displaying its FL-20A cable fault locator, which locates short-circuited and open conductors in long lengths of finished cables or cable components. Also being demonstrated will be the newly redesigned TST-10B system for testing wires inside a twisting bow. The system will be running at the show on a model bow twister.

AESA Cortaillod SA Booth 232

AESA Cortaillod is a Swiss manufacturer of automatic test equipment, specialising in testing solutions to fully characterise electrical parameters of cables and wires. At Interwire, the company will show its Scorpius DT unit for high frequency parameters of coaxial cables.

Integrated Scorpius DT unit for coaxial cable measurement

The equipment is a complete and integrated solution to characterise coaxial cables with embedded VNA (vector network analyser) and Windows computer. Different versions are available to measure up to 18 GHz and more. The Scorpius DT can be used with AESA’s new coaxial universal connectors for quick and reliable connection of coaxial cables to the N-ports of the device. AESA also offers also baluns and balunless solutions for single-pair Ethernet cables, LAN or category cable up to Cat8, high voltage (6 kV) testers, data management systems, ISO17025 certification, and linear resistance measuring equipment covering very small to very large section range, either in the lab or directly on the line. Interwire will also be an opportunity for AESA to officially start its collaboration with its new representative for the USA and Canada. Amaral Automation, founded more than 20 years ago and based in Warwick, Rhode Island, provides a large range of technical solutions and consulting services to the wire and cable industry. Cersa-MCI will demonstrate its measuring technology

At Interwire, Cersa-MCI will present and demonstrate its LDS sensor equipped with a WSR (wire rotation) or a foot pedal, and a label printer for off-line sample measurements. A workshop equipped with the LPS sensor for diameter measurement and flaw detection will also be on show, alongside the new SQM-F sensor for surface defect detection. Cersa-MCI www.cersa-mci.com
