Umbilicals in deep water for JDR Cables

JDR Cables has been awarded a contract by Nigerian oil and gas service firm Royal Niger Emerging Technologies. JDR will supply the components to house hydraulic controls, chemical hoses, low voltage signal cables and chemical supply lines, and deliver them to the Abo field in early 2015. The umbilical will connect an existing subsea distribution unit to a new well through the use of two umbilical termination units. JDR will manufacture the umbilical on a 9.2m installation reel at its deep water, quayside facility in Hartlepool, UK. The project will provide a training ground for Nigerian nationals in the integration, testing, installation and commissioning of umbilicals. Nigerian trainees will travel to Hartlepool for the project. A statement from Royal Niger said: Making the link

“We see this contract as the first step in a bold move to domicile umbilical technology and services in Nigeria through the effective collaboration with JDR to deliver the umbilical product and technology transfer to the Nigerian market.”

Filipino grid operating company NGCP (National Grid Corporation of the Philippines) has contracted Prysmian group for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a submarine power cable link between the Negros and Panay islands. The connection project, known as CNP-1 (Cebu-Negros-Panay phase 1), is the first stage of a larger development plan by NGCP, aimed at connecting the Cebu, Negros and Panay islands to each other and at strengthening the country’s power transmission network. The submarine cable will back-up an existing 138kV oil-filled cable circuit, currently the only connection among the islands. The 22km CNP-1 cable connection comprises three HVAC 230kV single core cables with XLPE insulation and single wire armouring. Prysmian will also supply and install underground cables for the land portions of the link and will erect the two cable terminal stations. Cables will be produced at Prysmian’s Arco Felice facility, with delivery and commissioning scheduled for the first half of 2016. The group has supplied submarine cable links throughout the Asia Pacific region, including the Penang Island in Malaysia, the Java-Bali link in Indonesia, the Cheju Island in Korea, the Ha Tien-Phu Quoc in Vietnam and the Basslink interconnector in Australia. The CNP-1 project is the group’s first turnkey in the Philippines. Prysmian Group – Italy Website : www.prysmian.com
