Swisscom chooses Huber+Suhner fibre optics

Swisscom, the Swiss telecommunications company, is opting for Huber+Suhner products and systems for the provision of fibre optics to households. Over the coming years, the global specialist in electrical and optical connectivity based in Pfäffikon and Herisau, Switzerland, will supply fibre management systems for local exchanges to the Swiss market leader. With currently more than 1.7 million fixed network broadband connections, Swisscom is a leading player in the growth market of broadband communication. Swisscom has used fibre optics technology for many years, initially to connect its exchanges and later for business customers. By deciding to bring fibre optic links into private households, the telecoms supplier is meeting the growing need of customers in the multimedia and telecommunications sectors for greater speed and convenience. This makes applications such as HDTV and teleworking possible, with faster uploading and downloading of large quantities of data. With its fibre optics division, Huber+Suhner is among market leaders in fibre optic management and fibre optic connectivity. Successes with innovative system solutions, connectors and special cables for the rapidly growing Fibre to the Home domestic and international markets, are drivers of growth of Huber+Suhner fibre optics. In addition there are products for antenna feed lines (Fibre to the Antenna), as well as industrial applications. As a first step, Huber+Suhner will supply Swisscom with fully equipped, customer-specific “LISA” high-density fibre optic management systems, initially for the exchanges in Basel, Geneva and Zurich. Huber+Suhner also supplies cables to transport data from the switching station to the home on the basis of new, special fibre optics and low-loss connectors.
