In addition to the new mould equipment, Ametek has developed a Navy-approved process that effectively moulds polyurethane to a polyethylene jacketed cable. The company produces custom electrical and optical connectors, cable assemblies and hull penetrators that are widely found on the US submarine fleet as well as many other of the world’s navies. It also provides electrical interconnect solutions for a wide range of extreme environments, including undersea, oil field, nuclear and aerospace, that draw upon the extensive knowledge of submarine systems and expertise in electrical connector and data transmission technologies. The test, being conducted by the independent test laboratory Materials Technology Ltd in accordance with ISO 4892-3 Method A cycle 1 (outdoor simulation), covers Silver Fox’s: • Fox-Flo ® zero-halogen tie-on cable labels • Endurance ® Pipeline ID tape ISO 14726, in various background colours • Endurance ® Pipeline ID Tape BS 4800, in various background colours According to Materials Technology, accelerated UV weathering can have a number of effects on exposed samples – for example, changes in colour.
