ProThermic PH300 series wire preheater from Proton

The ProThermic PH300 delivers high-frequency induction pre-heating to 200ºC or greater with a high electrical energy efficiency (EEE) power-to-wire transfer rate of 96 per cent, using the latest solid-state technology. It is designed for use on all types of wire including solid, copper-clad and aluminium up to 3mm diameter and stranded wires up to 3.2mm diameter. It employs a parabolic control algorithm to ensure optimal, accurate heating of the product at all line speeds and wire sizes. The ProThermic PH300 is housed in a rugged enclosure with a user-friendly, menu-based LCD interface. Industry-standard communication interfaces are available for integration into the customer’s automation platforms. The materials have been tested according to several standards. Results, comparative videos and cone calorimeter tests are available. Cable simulations obtained combining Ekopren ® bedding compounds with thermoplastic jacketing materials from the major producers have been tested and analysed achieving a useful guideline for cable producers to obtain cables according to the desired CPR class. PROTON Products continues to expand its product range with affordable, innovative technologies that provide its customers with solutions that improve production, quality and product safety. Proton’s latest ProThermic TM wire preheater increases the insul- ation-to-wire adhesion and stripping characteristics to stop pinholes and bare patch faults, especially at high line speeds. By preheating the conductor, it eliminates any “thermal shock” between a cold (ambient temperature) wire and a relatively hot material flowing from the extruder, while also driving off wire moisture. By preheating the conductor to the same temperature as the extruded insulation, it significantly improves the quality of the final product to ensure that the adhesion and electrical properties of the finished product are correct. The reason for flame retardancy in cables is to save lives and guarantee service conditions in harmful situations. It is not just a technical parameter, but a safety requirement. More than 20 years ago, when Mixer began operations, the question was what is the best way to produce a flame retardant bedding compound? The answer was magnesium di hydroxide (MDH). MDH is the best raw material for this task because it is halogen free, produces only water in contact with flames and gives the highest temperature resistance in fire conditions. At the same time, it was a challenge for the company to produce a bedding compound with improved extrusion behaviour and the expected flexibility with MDH. The success in this challenge has led to superior cable performances in the portfolio of worldwide cable companies

❍ The ProThermic PH300 from Proton Products New medical crosshead Guill Tool & Engineering, of West Warwick, Rhode Island, USA, has introduced the new Micro Medical, an extrusion crosshead that uses micro-fine adjustment screws for precise concentricity adjustment. The precision of concentricity reaches 0.008" or finer per revolution. This single point concentricity adjustment is a Guill innovation for the extrusion of thin-walled and precision ID/OD medical tubing. One adjustment bolt controls 360° of adjustment. Features of the Micro Medical crosshead include a patented cam-lock deflector for quick changeovers, with a residence time of one minute at 0.5 lb/hr material flow, optimised usage with extruders measuring ½" and ¾", and a maximum die ID of 0.250". Additionally, the Guill Micro Medical crosshead offers great flexibility to its users. Guill Tool & Engineering – USA Website : www.guill.com
