Technology news

A new ‘bullhead’ tubular strander for armouring optical and special cables is presented as an alternative to the classical planetary or tubular stranders. Caballé has upgraded and improved the existing technology of bullhead stranders with some major improvements: • Number of steel wires up to 36 • Pay-off bobbins: DIN 500-630 • Central tube reel size: DIN 1600-2500 • Tension control core by motor/dancer system • Dual compensation mechanical system that keeps wire tension fully constant • Optimal management/information of alarms in the main screen with alarm description and position (nº of payoff) • Maximum stranding speed: 500rpm With this system the central core with the fibre optics inside Five times more productive

is paid off completely straight with no twist occurring in the product, so the resulting quality is the same as with a planetary strander but with much higher stranding speeds. In the production mode the productivity of this machine is up to five times higher than a planetary strander. The possibility to work with up to 36 wires in a single pass makes this machine a very versatile line, as well as a high productivity line, being able to armour optical and special cables with high tensile strength steel wires. The ‘bullhead feeder’ has been designed to allow a wide range of working tensions, which makes it suitable for a single steel tube with fibres inside as well as for an armoured cable with a first layer of steel wires. RT600 is proving a big hit worldwide

THE new Eurolls straightening and cutting machine RT600 for electrodes, capable of producing electrode sticks at 10m/sec, has attracted major attention since its launch. This interest has continued to gain momentum to the point where a number of internationally known companies have installed the machine. The flexibility of this machine permits it to be connected directly to the wire production line. Productivity can be further increased by substituting the traditional dies with Eurolls’ CL25C33 cold rolling micro cassettes. The line permits entry with low carbon or stainless steel entry rod (5.5mm diameter), to roll/draw it to the final exit wire product (from 2 to 5mm), to clean the wire, straighten and cut it to the final electrode stick length (normally two main product lengths – 350mm and 450mm). The main advantage of this is that in a single process it goes directly from entry material to final electrode stick at high production speeds while maintaining the surface finish, accuracy in stick diameter and length requested for this type of product. To show this, Eurolls has successfully commissioned in the Lincoln do Brasil plant and in the presence of Eurolls president Renato Railz, a combined

complete success and the customer left satisfied with the equipment. Requests for similar equipment have arrived from producers of welding wire materials, and even from different individual branch offices belonging to the same parent company. Similar equipment has already been installed with success in Turkey, Bangladesh, Peru, Bulgaria, Iran, Spain and Germany. Eurolls SpA – Italy Website : www.eurolls.com

line complete with multi-pass rolling machine, cleaning unit, straightening and cutting unit for production of low carbon and stainless steel electrode sticks. In the same period, the Turkish company Kainak Teknigi Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (partner in Turkey of Lincoln Group) has visited the Eurolls premises for the contractual pre-shipment inspection and approval of the cleaning plus straightening and cutting unit for production of low carbon electrode sticks. The inspection was said to be a
