Automatic welding helmets from ESAB ESAB Welding and Cutting produces personal protective equipment (PPE) that optimises the removal of welding fumes to ensure a safe environment for operators. Among the products ESAB supplies are the Sentinel A50 and Sentinel A50 for Air high-performance automatic welding helmets, the latter of which incorporates a PAPR (powered air purifying respirator) unit. The Sentinel’s design incorporates ergonomic headgear and maximum adjustability to increase productivity, functionality and usability. The A50’s features include an almost infinitely adjustable five-point headgear, a 100 x 60mm viewing area, an externally activated grind button, a colour touchscreen control panel and a front- loading convex cover lens, available in different colour options, that changes in ten seconds. ESAB also supplies the F&G range of helmets, consisting of the F20, G30, G40 and G50 models with a flip-up visor design, suited to welding, cutting and grinding applications. To complement the helmet portfolio, the PAPR features a P3 filter and pre- filter to remove particulates, and the latest control technology, allowing the operator to adjust air flow between 170 and 220 l/min to suit the environment and application. As an extra measure of For ‘at source’ source extraction, ESAB supplies the Carryvac 2 P150/P150 AST machines: two small, lightweight, portable extraction units that can be carried into the working area. Connected to a welding torch or to an extraction nozzle, the units extract the fumes directly. For light to medium welding and extraction applications, ESAB supplies the Origo Vac Carts, which can be supplied with or without a light, and are simple and easy-to-use portable units. Compatible helmets include the Sentinel A50 for Air, G30 Air, G40 Air, G50 Air and Warrior Tech. Designed with robust construction for all heavy-duty welding applications, the ESAB PAPR weighs a comfortable 1 kg. A Li-ion battery pack provides up to eight hours of operation at an air flow rate of 220 l/min, and an LED indicator makes it easy for operators to see and set flow rates; there is also an LED indicator for battery charge.

To validate integrity, OCT SW valves are exposed to a stringent fire testing procedure, involving a 30-minute burn where they are bathed in flames. Valves are monitored for leakage throughout the process. After a forced cool-down period they undergo further seat and external leakage testing, and operational capability is also verified. The process is designed to simulate the time required to extinguish a fire, ensuring the valves can perform during and after an incident.

Severn Glocon Group is extending its range of triple offset butterfly valves with a new solution that avoids galvanic corrosion in saline applications, without compromising fire-safe capability. The OCT ® SW innovation was driven by market feedback from offshore oil and gas operators in relation to seawater service valves used for fire safety.
