Fast track rapidly proves its worth Butting reports that the additional capacities at its new production site in Könnern, Germany, allow the company to react more flexibly to customer requirements than in the past. The lean processes at the new site permit deliveries soon after the steel plate arrives. Michael Fürstenberg, from CRA pipes sales, commented, “After expanding our pipe store with new ISO sizes a few months ago, we can also react more quickly and flexibly to our customers’ require- ments in future.”
The company has already implemented the first of these ‘fast track’ orders to the customer’s satisfaction. Two pipe sizes were produced for a customer in Finland within the stipulated five-week delivery period. For the raw material, Butting was able to use the steel plate store of its affiliated company Butting Anlagenbau. At the production site in Könnern, 36m of pipe was produced in 1,016 x 8mm size, and 102m in 813 x 6.3mm size. Acceptance took place according to DIN EN 10217-7 TC 1. Butting was able to supply an additional requirement for 66m in 456 x 3mm size directly from stock.

four weeks. Steel plates for producing the pipes in 762 x 12.7mm size were purchased via a service store. In order to send the pipes to the end customer by airfreight, the lengths stipulated were 3m. Acceptance took place according to ASTM A358 Cl. 1 and to customer-
