Historic meets modern in building redevelopment The innovative Moorgate development in London, UK, will provide contemporary office, residential and retail space. The property, located within the Bank Conservation Area, will be a new eight-storey building behind a retained Victorian façade. commented on the project: “Designed to integrate happily within the character of the surrounding area, the development occupies a city block of approximately 2,060m 2 , which will be consolidated into a single unified building. The facades of 8-10 Moorgate and 17 and 16 Tokenhouse Yard are to be retained, refurbished and incorporated into the scheme. The Moorgate façade will form Allies and Morrison Architects, who have drawn up the plans for the development,

the principal frontage and entrance to the office building, while 17 Tokenhouse Yard will contain a number of small residential units.” The modern extension of the building was developed by Waterman and William Hare structural engineers, who contracted Barnshaw Section Benders to supply bends for the project. Barnshaw provided 400 beams, the largest of which was 610x305x179 UB. Altogether the beams weighed 360 tonnes, and formed the structure of the Moorgate building. The company managed to deliver the curved material very quickly – it took the benders only ten weeks. Established in 1969, Barnshaw Section Benders is based at six manufacturing sites around the UK, located in the West Midlands; Manchester; and Hamilton, Scotland. Across these sites over 120 specialist machines are housed, and have provided steel bending services for some of the country’s largest projects. MRC Global Inc has completed the acquisition of the operating assets of Dan H Brown, Inc, D/B/A Flow Control Products (Flow Control). Founded in 1981 in Odessa, Texas, USA, Flow Control is a provider of pneumatic, electric and electro-hydraulic valve automation packages and related field support to the Permian Basin energy industry, including production facilities, pipelines and plant operations. The company will operate as an MRC valve automation centre. “We are pleased to have completed this acquisition as part of our continued commitment to our customers in the North American shale plays,”

“I would like to welcome Flow Control’s experienced and technically knowledgeable valve professionals to our team in the Permian Basin.” In other news from MRC, the company has been awarded a global contract to supply and distribute pipe, valve and fitting (PVF) needs for Celanese Corporation. The five-year contract covers all of Celanese’s global manufacturing operations, including pipes, valves and fittings for MRO. The associated services can include traditional distribution, project services and on-site materials management.
