Backing and sputtering tubes Nu-Tech Precision Metals, located near Ottawa, Canada, extrudes all grades of titanium tubes for use in aerospace, nuclear, sub-sea, glass coating, military, mining, marine, water treatment, chemical and commercial uses. The company specialises in backing tubes and sputtering tubes for the glass coating industry. Its seamless pipe and tube sizes range from approximately 40 to 350mm OD (1.5" to 14"). Wall thicknesses are available from 3.18mm (0.125") and thicker. Nu-Tech’s 3,250-ton extrusion press handles billets from 6" OD up to 14" OD. Customers can choose to have tubes in the “as extruded” condition to further finish in their shop, or have Nu-Tech finish to a custom print. The company offers OD grinding, ID boring, ID honing, hot stretch straightening, annealing, heat treating, pickling, and cold draw on a 500-ton bench.

Nu-Tech is dual registered under ISO AS 9100 Rev C and 9001-2000, and is also a Registered Material Organization and Fittings manufacturer under ASME Section III NCA 4000.

One of Nu-Tech’s specialities is supplying defect-free pipe to exceedingly tight tolerances. Pipe finishing is accomplished by centreless grinding outside diameters and honing inside diameters. Other in-house services include extrusion of customer-supplied billets, certified non- destructive technicians, electron beam welding, metallurgical consultation and collaboration on R&D work. Small runs, sample sizes, unique projects and production runs are all welcome.

field (no dead zone). The technology also allows mounting emitter and receiver far apart from each other, depending on the available space conditions. Typical processes where the system offers new solutions are peeling, grinding, polishing and straightening, as well as in quality control lines (NDT). The dimensional data for diameter, ovality, etc, can be fed directly to the user’s network or displayed in real-time for the operator by USYS processors, and also for feedback to the machine.

Zumbach Electronic, Switzerland, has extended its range of ODAC ® laser scanners for non-contact inline diameter measurement for large size solutions. With the ODAC 550 it is now possible to measure large steel bars, tubes and rolls up to 500mm or more at accuracies of a few metric microns and rates of up to 2,000 measurements/s. Other materials, such as titanium, brass, alloys and plastic, work as well. This was made possible by the development of a revolutionary optical scanning technique with a highly parallel and seamless measuring
