THE new Beta LaserMike LaserSpeed ® Pro gauge from NDC Technologies enables pipe and tube mills to more accurately measure the length and speed of their products for better cutting control. The high-performance non-contact laser gauge also offers expanded capabilities in connectivity, communication and control consistent with Industry 4.0, allowing it to be easily integrated into production networks for real-time data exchanges and tight processing efficiencies to drive product quality. LaserSpeed Pro projects a unique pattern on the surface of the pipe or tube, which is then reflected back to the unit and translated into speed. Pulses are generated at a rate proportional to the speed. The pulse output is sent to a control system, such as a PLC, to indicate length and trigger the precise cuts. The new, faster processing engine enables length and speed measure- ments to be made up to 100,000 times per second, and pulses can be driven up to 5 MHz to control the cutting sys- tem. Measurements are performed with better than ±0.03 per cent accuracy and ±0.02 per cent repeatability for the depth
