Advanced modules These are dedicated to specific applications, such as tube mills, and include the advanced production scheduler, Mill Manager for the automatic mill setup and slitting line optimisation. Business intelligence The BI module delivers real-time statistical analysis, multidimensional reports and graphs based on the data stored in the database. The configuration of the KPI module allows the creation of customised company dashboards based on customers’ requirements alongside with the standard KPI dashboard. The report customisation can be either carried out by customers themselves or by Fives, thanks to the Visual Studio configurable reports.At the same time, data imports from third party systems, such as PowerBI or Microsoft Excel, are available. Networking is the backbone. The central server communicates with the Level 1 field PLC through the Ethernet/IP, the Profinet protocols and communicates with the remote stations via TCP/IP protocol. OTOMES is designed to connect to any ERP system, exchanging real-time information, such as downloading sales order and returning production and process data. Most common ERPs provide communication connectors, while database exchange tables are used where homemade applications are in place. The information flow is continuous, safe and transaction oriented. When crossing the plan’s boundaries is where the Cloud comes into the picture. Thanks to data stored in the Cloud, it becomes instantly available on any connected mobile device outside the plant. Likewise, all the data coming from multiple plants working in the same industry are collected and aggregated on the Cloud to be available everywhere. Network infrastructure engineering is an integral part of the OTOMES deployment, where specific technical skills are needed and become part of the solution itself. Due to the harsh environments often typical of the steel industry, the industrial components are chosen to fit the strongest sector requirements. Each station is designed to be pre-tuned for a user-friendly set-up process. In addition, the pulpits house an expandable tracking PLC that directly connects to the field PLCs to guarantee the real-time data acquisition.
