The short term will be difficult; an efficient and effective supply chain will be essential and the only way to achieve that will be through dialogue and collaboration. soon as the last pipe is manufactured. This instant connection between both ends of the supply chain is a ‘leap area’, which is likely to become more developed in the coming years.

Sustainable steel production Debates on the future of our planet will only become ever more important for the oil & gas industry in the transition period to clean energy. As an example, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced last year that it would phase out support for energy projects related to unabated fossil fuels, including traditional gas infrastructure [3] . If we are to produce oil & gas pipelines which will assist in the transition to a low carbon economy, we need to ensure that we minimise their environmental impact. Tata Steel’s ambition is to become a carbon neutral producer of steel to the oil & gas industry from 2050 with up to a 40 per cent carbon reduction by 2030. The company is already one of the world’s most CO 2 -efficient steel companies. During the last 30 years it has reduced its CO 2 emissions per tonne by about 15 per cent but its ambition is to continuously improve its production processes and efficiencies. Tata Steel believes a portfolio of solutions including carbon capture and storage and usage, hydrogen converted from renewable energy and increasingly circular economic propositions are all key enablers to achieving its carbon neutral ambition.
