Innovative induction quench and temper lines for tubes and bars from SAET EMMEDI

feedback is necessary to manage the set point of the power generator. The image shows a data acquisition from the static induction heating of a steel cylinder. The pyrometer signal can be influenced by a wide range of factors like the presence of scales, surface defects, smoke, uneven coating and so on giving sudden temperature rises and drops or instabilities. An averaging filter and a control system (PID, feedforward) could be used for a continuous process, but it cannot always be effective. The solution implemented for the optimisation of the temperature control is that of a predictive filter in the system to remove measurement inaccuracies and noise, giving better feedback by using a numerical model for the induction heating. The predictive model implemented is based on a thermal and electromagnetic numerical model. The power distribution and temperature variation from the generator data can be evaluated using the embedded model that can be used for production optimisation. features Spectro’s proven single air optic with high-resolution CCD sensors. Its solid design resists fluctuations due to ambient temperature changes. It handles elemental wavelengths from 233nm to 670nm. The new SPECTROMAXx Advanced adds a new UV optic with four high-resolution CMOS detectors. Its extended wavelength range covers elements from 120nm to 235nm. A closed system circulates gas through SPECTRO’s UV Plus cleaning cartridge, eliminating extra argon consumption and contamination risks. Both versions feature a temperature- stabilised system that heats both optics. Both are available as floor-mounted units with optional PC stands or benchtop models for a minimum footprint.

WITH considerable experience in the development of innovative processes based on induction heating, SAET EMMEDI has been recognised as a leading company in the design and manufacture of equipment for bar and tube applications for several decades. Since SAET SpA joined the Ajax Tocco Magnethermic Corporation group of companies, the EMMEDI brand has further expanded and is well known as a provider of a range of products used for customised processes and solutions for the bar and tube industry. This synergy with one of the oldest and most experienced manufacturers of induction heating equipment has ensured the consolidation and expansion of SAET EMMEDI with an extended presence in international markets. The engineered design and market- proven solutions for Q/T lines of bar and tube developed by Ajax Tocco Magnethermic have been shared worldwide within the group. For Europe, in particular, this has enhanced SAET EMMEDI’s experience as the product and process portfolio has been extended and service availability has increased. has announced the newest version of its SPECTROMAXx Arc/Spark OES analyser with next-generation improvements for the advanced analysis of incoming and outgoing materials at metal producing and fabricating plants. Spectro’s new, ninth generation SPECTROMAXx LMX09 analyser gives users rapid information to react instantly to changing process conditions. The new SPECTROMAXx also provides a reduced cost of ownership with lower consumables, plus advanced diagnostics and easy maintenance that increases availability and prevents downtime. Features of the new SPECTROMAXx LMX09 Arc/Spark OES analyser include: simple standardisation with SPECTRO’s proprietary iCAL 2.0 calibration logic; significant reductions in argon gas consumption – 6 per cent to 12 per cent

The product line ranges from one to 42 tons per hour and can process: API upsets in-line with sophisticated multi-frequency technology; the use of induction heating in this process creates a finer grain; it offers better process control and ease of computer-aided controls resulting in a high quality end product; a wide range of tube diameters are possible; and also different layout solution depending on floorspace. SAET EMMEDI’s DynaZone tech- nology allows a perfect heating control – the power can be tuned and controlled independently on each heating section, changing the heating profile according to the production needs. To control the temperature, both in continuous and in batch heating systems, an accurate temperature during operation and 18 per cent to 64 per cent during standby; an expanded wavelength range with the option of a new UV optic to handle a spectral range from 120 nanometers (nm) to 235nm, extending analyses to elements such as nitrogen, carbon, sulfur and phosphorus as well as hydrogen and oxygen in titanium base materials. Available in two models, the new SPECTROMAXx features hardware improvements, including a new spark stand configuration with easier access for automation options; a new optic isolation concept for greater temperature stability; UV optic (on SPECTROMAXx Advanced); an ultra-robust, high- power plasma generator with spark frequencies up to 1,000Hz; start/stop averaging button/spark indicator; and on/off safety switch to control line/mains power.
