Turkish ERW company commissions specialist tooling from Atomat for its tube mills

pleted the commis- sioning of the tooling supplied by Atomat for its new tube mills. The project started in July 2020 and involved

ATOMAT SpA is an Italian company founded in 1968 in Remanzacco, Udine where its headquarter are still located. As an international company in rolls and CNC machines (lathes, grind- ers and notching machines) Atomat SpA provides customers with efficient solutions for their project needs, with a focus on efficiency, accuracy and professional service and assistance. Atomat SpA designs and manu- factures rolls in steel and tungsten carbide for a wide range of applications with a focus on high quality standards. It offers cutting edge equipment and highly qualified personnel. It has enjoyed long- term collaborations with many of the most important European steel suppliers. With its ability to offer flexibility to meet specific customer requirements Atomat SpA has been recognised for many years as one of the most prominent companies in roll production. During the second quarter of 2021, one of the biggest players in the Turkish ERW tube industry successfully com-

Atomat aims to provide customers with the best solutions for their specific project needs

Thanks to experience gained over more than 50 years of specific experi- ence in the welded tube industry, Atomat SpA can design rolls for any appli- cation with its specific software devel- oped, tested and improved over many years. In this way the company is able to meet the specific requirement of tube producers, supporting customers with its team of specialists. The project has been a success thanks to Atomat SpA sales manager, roll division, Michele Severo and his long-lasting collaboration with the local representative in Turkey, Aydin Saglamturk.

a thorough technical analysis of the products to be manufactured, based on the materials to be processed and on the specifications of the tube mills. The solutions proposed were finalised in order to optimise the roll sets and to minimise the capital costs by offering excellent and consistent performance. More than 2,000 rolls were supplied covering a large range of tube diameters from 8mm to 63.5mm and all relevant different profiles. The comprehensive analysis and the wide experience of Atomat engineers also allowed the safe and immediate introduction of tungsten carbide rolls. Carbide rolls offer a longer working life and outstanding quality on the surface of the tubes.

The impor tance of pointing machines for the drawing of precision tubes

As this machine type requires very little space it is perfectly suited to retro- fitting into an existing line. Furthermore, the simple technical concept offers considerable cost benefits as only one machine for this application has to be purchased instead of two. The design of the push-pointer modules makes it possible to retrofit on site already existing folding tag machines with this add-on, so that a ‘state-of-the- art’ pointing system can be used with a relatively low investment.

PREPARING the leading tube end for the subsequent drawing process is an important operation at the beginning

of the drawing of precision tubes. This work step is perfectly covered by the latest generation of Bültmann tube pointing machines. The combined tube pointing machine, type HAM/PH, has been specifically developed to handle the increased requirements associated with the pointing of tubes. Due to the combination of both proven pointing methods – folding tag forming and push-pointing – integrated in one machine it is possible to point tubes with small wall thickness as well as tubes with a larger one (ratio > 1:10) in one working station.
