Robust pipe-milling machines FEIN is a pioneer in pipe cutting, with 90 years of expertise in this area. The company’s pipe-milling machines are in their element when existing pipelines have to be cut to separate them, whether on open-air sites or offshore, and sometimes in very difficult conditions. The pipe-milling machines are available in two designs: electrical (RSG 1500 and RSG Ex 1500) and compressed air (RDG 1500). They can cut oil, gas and water pipes with diameters ranging from 250 to 1,500mm, and can handle concrete-lined water supply pipes and the large-scale tanks used in power generation plants or in process engineering systems. Weighing 67kg, the Fein RDG 1500 compressed air version can be safely used to cut pipes carrying oil, gas or chemical substances. The machine can also be operated when there are low water levels, as happens when water supply pipes burst. With a lightweight construction, the Fein RSG 1500 electrical version weighs 73kg and has a continuously constant torque. It can be used at temperatures ranging between +60 and -30°C. This model is also available

with an explosion-proof motor (RSG Ex 1500), in which both the electrical motor and the auxiliary switch are ATEX- compliant. Both the compressed air and electrical variants can be set up by just two people. “It’s these very features that make Fein pipe-milling machines such capable problem-solvers when it comes to separating and milling tasks that would otherwise be extremely hard to perform,” said Lisa Ocker, product manager responsible for separation at Fein. Ms Ocker, together with application specialist Matthias Hess, visits customers and prospective buyers around the world, to run bespoke demonstrations that showcase the benefits of the two robust, heavy-duty machines. New high-tensile steel pipes and extreme temperatures require high-performance machines and saw blades, whether in the middle of a desert where temperatures can climb to 60°C or in the Arctic where temperatures can fall to -30°C. Pipe-milling machines are essential if a pipeline has to be extended or repaired. Fein’s pipe-milling machines are available with two drive variants with different feed speeds: 40mm/min and 80mm/min. The feed can be switched on or off as necessary. When used with the appropriate tool attachments, smooth separation cuts or profile cuts for V or U weld grooves can be made. The compact RSG 1500 and RDG 1500 models have been designed to separate pipework when space is an issue. The length of the link chains can be set to suit the particular pipe diameter.
