Coil end joining and tube equipment GUILD International is a specialist in coil end joining and tube and pipe entry equipment. Based in Ohio, USA, Guild has supplied coil joining equipment and strip accumulating and tube and pipe entry equipment since 1958. As Guild continues to serve the global markets with machinery, it has continued to innovate using the newest fibre laser technology for its welding equipment. Guild’s client base has been interested in laser welding technology for quite some time but the company has been waiting for a 100 per cent reliable solution that can handle rigorous industrial environments and high production needs.

Guild has now launched a laser line of products, using the newest technology available – solid-state fibre lasers. These lasers are reliable and have less maintenance than traditional CO 2 lasers. Additionally, fibre lasers are more energy efficient. In late 2015, Guild decided the company needed to design a laser coil joiner for extremely thin and narrow materials. Guild’s engineers came up with the design for the LHMA laser welder. This machine is capable of joining coils down to 0.002" with a complete edge-to-edge weld without the need for start and stop tabs. These machines are capable of welding a variety of materials from carbon steels to more complex non-ferrous materials. Guild has always felt that when customers request new technology for more complicated applications it should attempt to find a high quality solution. the company must always look to the future and develop new technologies in anticipation of customer requirements. The aim is to make the machines faster and fully automatic. Guild also continues to be a leading company in the manufacture of tube mill entry equipment. It has a reputation of producing heavy-duty, reliable machinery and is well known for producing cutting-edge coil end joiners. Most tube and pipe applications rely heavily on the coil joiners in their lines. Around two years ago, Guild was tasked by a major conduit producer with building a coil end joiner that was not only faster than before, but fully automatic. Guild was pleased to take on such a challenge and designed six new machines, which cut down on the cycle time by almost 50 per cent and can be used fully automatically. By producing these machines the coil joiners were able to keep up with rigorous production demands. For almost 60 years Guild International hasbeenmeetingcustomer expectations internationally by supplying technically advanced equipment to the tube and pipe industry. It continues to strive to meet new customer applications and embrace the newest materials and technology.

is different to standard tube and pipe production because the coil, when it is joined, is a usable piece of the end product. This means that the final weld produced must go through several tests to ensure the quality of the weld meets the customer’s high expectations. One of the tests usually used on the weld is an X-ray. This type of test looks for any porosity or imperfections in the weld. Typically, on this type of application there can be absolutely zero defects in the final weld. Guild worked with several major com- panies in the industry to ensure the high- est quality results. It recently finalised a new project for the coil tube industry us- ing these methods, which will be manu- facturing coiled tube overseas.
