Use of T-Drill collaring increasing within automotive industries T-DRILL, a manufacturer and supplier of tube processing and chip-less tube cutting machines, has been delivering an increasing number of S-54 and new S-80 collaring machines for automotive engine cooling and exhaust circulation and muffler applications. The T-Drill collaring method provides reliable and easy T-joining of tubes. This is important within automotive applications, because vehicles are subject to severe

vibrations that can create leakages and other problems with traditionally made T-joining using saddle-adapters or, in a worst case, a plain drilled hole. With increased lapping length between the extruded collar and the branch tube, the lapping joint length is increased. With capillary action, this provides a reliable brazed joint. In exhaust muffler applications the collar is typically flat and the branch tube is butt welded. T-Drill’s extruded outlets are formed only outside the main run tube. This eliminates flow restrictions that are common with some other forming operations.
