LAP launches new measuring software LAP has announced its new Smart Core Pro software for measuring the contours of long products. The new software enables the deep integration of geometrical data in the increasingly networked rolling mill production environment, making it available for cross-process data applications in the smart factory. Industry 4.0 production environment. Its high connectivity opens up the way for the exchange of data between people, machines and processes and the use of comprehensive contour-measurement data.

Martin Pabst, head of the Industry Systems business unit at LAP, sees a great need for the deep integration of geometrical data in superordinate systems: “In the digital factory, machines organise production autonomously, exchange information automatically, initiate actions and control each other. “Industry 4.0 in the rolling mill starts where data from measuring systems is intelligently linked with superordinate systems. Smart Core Pro makes the geometrical data of the rolled product available factory-wide in highly networked manufacturing processes. With it, users can improve processes at a higher level and precisely evaluate quality and output.” With Smart Core Pro, the results from LAP’s measurement system for optical contour capturing and surface process. In many cases, the return on investment can be realised in less than a year.” The Model 3000A incorporates an automatic, servo driven concentricity adjustment system, which allows for adjustment of the core tube/ tip assembly with accurate joystick control. This enables the operator to minimise eccentricity, maximise concentricity and reduce downtime during product changeovers. In addition, the servo drives enable monitoring and adjustments throughout the run to account for lot-to-lot variations, day/ night variations and corrections for gum space adjustments. Additional features such as a tapered mandrel and highly engineered flow paths ensure consistent flow through all speed ranges. The thrust bearing supported core tube/pin assembly enables wall thickness modification

With its new Smart Core Pro software package, LAP introduces a system that makes the intensive, factory-wide use of long-product contour data possible, both directly in the process line and in the data structures of a networked

inspection Contour Check Shape, can be used directly to control the rolling process, as well as for further analysis in cross-process production control and quality assurance. The data is also available for use in MES or ERP systems, delivering comprehensive input for further use in big-data analysis or for future applications in supply-chain optimisation.

Davis-Standard introduces smar t technology for hose applications

under pressure without interruption. Die adjusting screws are located in removable inserts to protect the body from thread damage. A larger surface area in the water jacket improves heat transfer efficiency. Models are available to accommodate 2" (50mm), 3" (76mm), 4.5" (102mm) and 5.5" (140mm) diameter braids. Mr Wnuk added: “One of the best features of this automatic design is the precision adjustment. This contributes to material savings due to tighter tolerances within specifications. This is especially valuable with frequent product and dimension changes, which are becoming more and more common in the industry. We look forward to seeing the benefits of the crosshead for customers worldwide.”

DAVIS-STANDARD, a designer, devel- oper and distributer of extrusion and converting technology to support manu- facturing applications and customers in the automotive, building and con- struction, consumer products, medical, and packaging industries, has intro- duced the Model 3000A (automatic) crosshead for rubber hose applications. The new crosshead uses a smart technology that enables hose manu- facturers to reduce scrap and attain faster start-up times for smaller lots. “Every component on theModel 3000A is engineered to improve processing while providing cost savings,” said Joe Wnuk, vice-president, Davis-Standard Elastomer and Profile Systems. “There are production advantages when the crosshead is used as part of a fully integrated and automated elastomer line, or when used separately as a second step in the manufacturing
