Increase in productivity for tube welding lines

high cycle frequency. The movements, which are controlled exclusively by servo drives, allow shorter cycles, that make higher line speeds of the tube welding line possible. Servo actuators enable automatic changeovers of dimensions round tube/shaped tube as well as the bundle shapes. Depending on requirements, the system is fully automatically switched from one tube size to the other and between hexagon bundles to rectangular bundles and vice versa. Steel or plastic strapping units are placed at the end of the line. The modular system allows the user to work with single or multi-head or moveable strapping units. Furthermore, the strapping station can be equipped with a carton dispenser unit and/or with a plastic film packaging unit. With regard to industry 4.0 another focus has been put on the machine software includingmanyuseful functions. The central goal of all ASMAG developments to increase the return of investment for the tube producers and to improve productivity of their plants. ASMAG group is a group of companies active in the development, design and manufacture of machinery for the steel and non-ferrous metal industries.

TUBE cutting and handling at the end of a tube welding line is often known to be the bottlenecks of the complete line, resulting in high losses in productivity for tube manufacturers. ASMAG, together with SEUTHE, has now developed a solution, which has a significant productivity advantages over conventional solutions. The goals of their development were: to shorten the cycle frequencies to enable higher line speeds; to significantly reduce the machine changeover times, which have become increasingly important due to processing smaller batch sizes; and to reduce times of interruption caused by changing the saw blade and taking tube samples. The core of the solution is two-fold: on the one hand is the ASMAG Linear Drive flying saw, which has already been established on the market for several years, and on the other hand is the newly developed tube handling unit, which mostly consists of the stacking and bundling system. The Linear Drive high-performance saw from ASMAG enables higher line speeds with the same cut lengths. Saw blade service life is significantly longer, which results in reduced interruption times and reduction of scrap due to the less frequently required saw blade changes. The newly developed tube handling equipment placed after the Linear Drive saw can be equipped with a tube sample-taking unit, which takes tube samples automatically and without interruption of the production process. The core unit of the tube handling system is the stacking and bundling system, which is characterised by a
