Gantry sawing to complete continuous casting line

The company has invested in technology from SMS Concast Switzerland to produce blooms at a diameter of 300 to 600mm, with a production capacity of 600,000 tons per year. The company recently acquired Uzay Makina’s UMSG 800 dual gantry saw machine. The gantry bandsaw is installed after the SMS Concast continuous casting line, for cutting off the head and butt ends and, if necessary, for cutting out defective sections.

This complete sawing system has two sawing heads that move along a 20m table, where the workpieces are fixed. Both saws can move individually on the table. The machine can cut rounds up to 800mm. A programmable automatic feeding system allows the client to reach high levels of productivity. A major advantage of the gantry saw is that it can make a number of cuts with single material positioning; with optional 90° rotating blade guides it is possible to make cuts on different axes (horizontal/vertical).
