CMS supplies turnkey system to Salzgitter SALZGITTER Mannesmann Precision Tubes recently chose French NDT manufacturer Contrôle Mesure

Systèmes (CMS) for the creation of an entirely new production line. The main aim of Salzgitter Mannesmann’s recent phase of investment is to stimulate the market and make the plant more productive and cost-effective. The new production line will produce an array of seamless tubes ranging from 25 to 90mm in diameter. The current ultrasonic systems are not able to meet the increasing standards in quality assurance that are required in today’s market. This latest contract includes the supply of an entire NDT turnkey system, including a full NDT bench and integrated handling system (more than 50m of conveyor belts, and three different hoppers for the inspected tubes). The new line and testing bench will combine spectrometer inspection, a cutting-edge ultrasonic rotating head and three eddy current inspection systems, and will reach an inspection speed of 60m/min. The full NDT bench will be composed of a height-adjustable test bench with seven central driving units for guiding the tubes; three automated off-line sliding tables for ultrasonic and eddy current devices; eddy current anti-mix test; laser measurement of the outside diameter; and eddy current low-

The Probus software program, devel- oped by CMS, allows clients to gather information from various NDT systems, but also to centralise and manage all the sensors on the bench (pressure, temper- ature, flow, clogging, marking systems, height, etc). It is also possible to eas- ily control all the actuators of the bench through a user-friendly interface. The software contains a reliable remote-assistance feature using a unique VPN protocol. Probus has been designed to communicate with the factory network (L3 type) in order to allow the exchange of data in real time and to ensure traceability of each tube or batch. Clients also have the ability to check or audit reports, per tube or per batch, several months later. Contrôle Mesure Systèmes – France Email: contactcms@cmseddyscan.com Website: www.cmseddyscan.com

frequency inspection by magnetising yoke and coil managed by CMS Zet@ Premium. This equipment will detect external sub-surface short transversal defects. Also included will be eddy current high- frequency inspection by RotoETscan 130 rotating head, managed by CMS Zet@ Master, for detecting external surface longitudinal defects; RotoUTscan 90 ultrasonic rotating head with 24 channels connected to ultrasonic software, for detecting external and internal defects in the longitudinal and transversal direction; Probus supervision software; and DC+AC demagnetising unit. This installation will feature CMS’s latest technology, which is the result of several years of production experience and extensive feedback from clients. The technology has been combined with advanced Probus supervision software to create a sophisticated system.

A longitudinal weld seam milling machine was recently commissioned and put into operation for a large European pipe manufacturer by TKM. These lines are used to produce cost- effective and high-quality welds in pipe and container constructions.
