George A Smida started with a simple idea 75 years ago. Provide a great product and service to the customer. Over time the business innovated, product lines expanded and the company reached out to new markets. In 1946, George A Smida worked with Johnny Rodgers at Rodgers Hydraulics in St. Louis Park, Minnesota designing and building prototype hydraulic equipment to power hand chucks for expanding plastic tubes. George and his wife Louscinda purchased the pump, valve, and tools portion of Rodgers Hydraulics in 1959 to continue supporting existing customers, while the remainder of the business was sold to Victors Fluid Power in San Francisco, California. In the beginning, George set up an 800ft 2 machine shop in the garage at his home to supply parts, offer repair service, and develop innovative hydraulic machines and tool solutions. The Model A-6B Air-Operated Power Pump was an early product development, designed as a power source for hand chucks used in expanding, testing, and shaping of tubes for heating, ventilating and refrigeration coil manufacturing. The Airmo Hydraulics Inc company name originated from the early “air” over “motor” system design concept.

n What does your company specialise in and why is it the best at what it does? Airmo Inc ® specialises in Pressure Technologies with working pressures up to 60,000 psi (4,137 bar). Our patented products consist of high-pressure systems, machines, tools and other equipment used for hydrostatic pressure testing, tube end forming and tube expansion. Additionally, we engineer and manufacture accessories for supplying, controlling, regulating and dampening pressure within high pressure systems. For over 75 years, we have developed innovative ideas for safe, reliable products used in tube and pipe manufacturing, fabrication, and research.
