Remote monitoring of inspection on the move COORDINATE measuring machine manufacturer LK Metrology has intro- duced a web-based platform to help production departments monitor and control inspection activities around the clock.

statistical process control (SPC) analyses with Cp and Cpk results, and environmental logs including operating temperature are generated and communicated, alongside charts to aid interpretation and understanding. The software also sends alerts via email, SMS, WeChat or WhatsApp to share the information with users immediately, helping to avoid information being lost in the event of critical dimensional discrepancies or hardware failure. LK Metrology states that using this portal, “accuracy is practically guaranteed” as the quality control data is acquired automatically and objectively. It also avoids any risk of human error as reports are produced automatically and there is no need for data searches. Adashboard containing details of errors may be viewed on a web page, and users are able to access data they require over the Internet via a PC or using an app.

The new Metrology Gate portal is aimed at multinational organisations with factories worldwide, but is equally applicable to medium-size companies that have several production facilities in one country. According to LK Metrology, one of the major benefits of the Metrology Gate is that it is not necessary to travel at all to gain access to the information, which will cut costs and save time for its users. The company also said that the new portal addresses the fact that metrology is a function in the supply chain that, even though it generates the largest amount of data, has traditionally been supported by poor infrastructure for real- time access to information. Metrology Gate is designed to accelerate decision- making and drive efficiency across

an entire manufacturing organisation. The portal gives comprehensive daily reports, which include total output per shift and the number of parts measured, sudden changes in process averages, and comparisons between different machines producing the components. It also provides graphical CAD reports,
