High production output of 30 pipes per hour PLANT operators specialising in the aircraft, aerospace and automobile industries, as well as the energy industry, all have tailor-made forming press options available from Siempelkamp Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH’s extensive range of products. better and reproducible forming results than presses of open design. The tool adjustment only consists of one forming tool crimping the plate to the edges except for a few millimetres. In that way the material is optimally utilised. The tool can also be moved under load. The benefits are fast and precise adjustment to different plate sizes and shorter downtime intervals. The controlled movement of all axes allows for the realisation of the optimum U-canning for the subsequent forming stage into O. In connection with the patented multiple-stage system, pipes with smaller wall thickness can also be crimped. Another benefit is that through the optimised tool geometry several pipe diameters can be processed, thus reducing non-productive times.

The mechanical, hydraulic and elec- trical equipment of its hydraulic hot and cold forming presses have been devel- oped and manufactured by the company at a number of international locations. In addition, it runs its own Krefeld-based foundry and manufacturing facility for producing cast structural components, and electrical and hydraulic equipment. The presses are assembled and started up by the company at the customer’s site. As a manufacturer of individual presses for the production of large, lon- gitudinally welded pipes, Siempelkamp GmbH offers the ‘A-U-O’ process in three forming stages. A high production output of up to 30 pipes per hour is possible. For each of the three forming stages its customers get the optimum press including auxiliary devices in the forming line. The patented concept of the crimping press with closed-frame design allows for high specific forming pressure during crimping. The outcome: for high-tensile plates the presses achieve significantly

It hasamodular designand isequipped with three to four main cylinders and innovative press control and drive systems that are directly arranged at the press. This is the concept of the U-forming presses manufacturing thick- walled pipes of higher steel grades.

The line with a pressing force of 4,000 metric tons/metre also forms the present materials beyond X100 to the desired roundness based on optimum reduction ratio of up to 0.4 per cent. Varying pipe lengths are automatically detected and the press is controlled accordingly. Its patented, highly precise control for parallelism of moving crossbeam ensures a parallel pipe gap across the entire pipe length. Pipes manufactured in the O-process excel through homogeneous compressive stress distribution around the diameter and across the pipe length, thus complying with ‘deep water’ requirements. Siempelkamp’s try-out presses sys- tematically manage each of the three process stages in one machine.
