T&H Lemont ships RA11-18 roll former T&H LEMONT Inc recently designed, built and shipped a model RA11-18 roll forming machine to a customer that specialises in retail displays. Because the customer focuses on the retail environment, the company is familiar with the daily use and occasional abuse that its products endure.

While the standard RA11 has 12 stations, 2" shafts and 10" roll spacing, the RA11-18 was customised to 18 tooling stations, 1.50" shafts and 14" roll spacing. The other critical dimensions on the RA11-18 are the same as on the standard model, including 11" horizontal centres and vertical centres that are adjustable from 6¼ to 7½". It processes mild steel, in thicknesses from 0.031 to 0.035" at speeds up to 100ft per minute.

The company designs and delivers products that are built to last, so it chose a T&H Lemont machine to fortify this. The customer’s interest in investing in this machine involved producing a kick plate, a width of contoured steel that protects the base of most display racks and cabinets. The RA11-18 design was based on T&H Lemont’s standard model RA11, a robust unit from top to bottom. Its welded steel base uses plate-type construction. The shafts are made from

high-strength alloy steel, carburised and ground. It features precision tapered cup/cone bearings that can bear both radial and axial loads. The hardened gears run in an oil bath for smooth, quiet, trouble-free operation.

Materials Technology SANDVIK Materials Technology has officially separated from Sandvik and been renamed Alleima, a stand-alone listed company trading on the Nasdaq Stockholm Exchange. The new name combines two core strengths of the business – alloys and materials – with alei, an old version of the word alloy. Göran Björkman, president of Alleima, said: “In Alleima we have found a name that encapsulates the core of what we do and our uniqueness in a great way. It will enable us to position ourselves as the technology leader, progressive customer partner and sustainability driver that we are.” Alleima will support the business’ journey from its current leading position in materials technology into a market leader in advanced materials for the future. The company said: “It’s an exciting time. But while everything is new, nothing has changed.” The history stretches back to 1862 when the company called ‘Sandvikens Jernverk’ – now Sandvik – was founded. The company’s development and manufacturing of advanced stainless steels and special alloys are world-leading. It is what the company has been doing for 160 years, and remains its reason to exist. One of the top priorities is ensuring a seamless transition for customers. Alleima will continue to be the same supplier and retain the same ways of working as before. It remains committed to offering the same products and services with the same contacts, expertise and solutions. All existing orders and contracts remain valid and confirmed delivery schedules will not be affected. Its capabilities, global offering and footprint remain the same. Control over the supply chain from R&D to melt to the final product continues. Sandviken in Sweden remains the main industrial site, location for R&D and the company’s head office. Employees in its global locations continue to be ready to support customers.

The RA11-18 design was based on T&H Lemont’s standard model RA11
