Durable, truly green diode laser LASER specialist LAP has developed a truly green diode laser, which can withstand even the most harsh industry conditions. During manual processing of materials and components, green laser beams can be more quickly and reliably detected than red lasers, which are currently the industry standard.

The HD green laser is robust enough to withstand harsh industry conditions. The projection technology is housed in a chrome, nickel and steel casing offering IP67 protection. It is dustproof and can even tolerate sustained submersion in water. “Mandatory tests with a water container as a trade fair demo demonstrated that even days spent immersed underwater could not damage the laser,” Ms Lüdemann explains. The laser also withstands aggressive cleaning. “This guarantees good safeguards against failure and contributes to efficient production for companies with special hygiene requirements such as those in the food industry.”

The HD green diode laser is efficient and durable: with a maximum output of 40 milliwatts, a projection of up to 30m long lines can be achieved. Alternatively, points or crosses can be projected. “While lasers with DPSS technology have a service life between 3,000 and 10,000 operating hours, the HD green from LAP boasts over 20,000,” stated Ms Lüdemann. Until now, though, no manufacturers have supplied green diode lasers suitable for use in industry,” explained Caren Lüdemann, sales manager at LAP. “Our aim was to bring a truly innovative product to the market: a green diode laser, which can withstand harsh industry conditions and which has a long service life.” The result is the HD green range. The green laser beams are much easier to detect by the human eye than red beams when they are projected onto wet, dark or patterned surfaces.

A RANGE of standard and non-standard Inflatable Stoppers for tubes, pipes, pipework fabrications and ductwork is available from the Pipestoppers ® division of HFT. The versatile Inflatable Stoppers are used to service a wide variety of industrial applications. As ‘overnight stoppers’ they provide a strong barrier in pipeline activities, to prevent foreign bodies entering the line during down time. In machining applications they can be inserted below a horizontal flange on a vertical pipe, to prevent machining fluid from falling below into expensive machinery such as pumps and turbines. When welding large tanks and vessels, stoppers inflated with air can reduce the volume inside, so that the argon purging process takes little time and uses the minimum of expensive gas. It is claimed that the stoppers pay for themselves in one weld, and can be used multiple times. Other applications include leak testing of pipework systems, whether commercial, domestic or industrial, on-site thermo-forming of bends in plastic materials, and fibre-optic construction projects. All Inflatable Stoppers are manufactured with a strong internal inflatable bag covered in waterproof sewn polyurethane-coated nylon for low friction and to prevent the production of static electricity or accidental sparking.
