Innovative developments of the orbital cut

includes maintenance and resharpening of blades in Italy and in other European countries.

THE welded tube market is increasingly moving towards the use of orbital cutting, which offers several major benefits. The first is the possibility of increasing the velocity of the line thanks to the use of two or four tools rather than one. The second benefit is a longer life for the blades due to the reduced dimensions of the tool and greater rigidity. The third benefit concerns the better finish that is obtained through the reduction of vibrations (in this case the choice between several variables during the phase of design can make the difference). Last but not least, the process generates less waste during production. In spite of the advantages there are also some difficulties during the cut phase such as, for example, the high velocity of revolutions and the mechanical stress due to the major removals. The orbital cutting system, which is innovative even to the manufacturers of the machines themselves, should be studied closely during the development of the tool. The blade that is used for this type of cutting is subjected to a system of forces that is different from the traditional cut. To solve these problems the company Moreschi has developed a high performance and specific product in collaboration with the main manufacturers of cutting machines and with the biggest tube manufacturers. A new tool has been designed paying particular attention to the different geometries of sharpening and to the different type of teeth, in addition to a new coating that has been specially studied to increase the life of the tool and to reduce friction between blade and tube. The specialised technicians at Moreschi have been working closely with the customers by listening to their needs during the design phase of the blade, and, during the tests, providing technical assistance and advice. During this stage particular care has been given to the parameters of cutting that are indispensable for correct usage of the tool and to help to increase profit. The co-operation goes on with Moreschi offering advice to its customers. Good results have been obtained with new blades and also after resharpening. For many years Moreschi has offered an accurate after-sales service that
