Efficient coating and material handling of tubes

Rösler, Germany, has become well established for its range of fully automatic systems that are centred on either a roller conveyor or tube blaster. In one equipment construction, designed to protect tubes from corrosion, customization included automatic stacking of the treated components. A temporary corrosion protection coating (welding primer) ensures that the components do not deteriorate, physically or visually, during their transport by ship or rail. For many steel users, preservation of the products is a major factor in the purchase of steel. Rösler designs and builds preservation lines and accessory equipment, which fully meet all customer specifications for metal sheets, I-beams, tubes and round bars. The focus is on cost effective processing of the parts and a high equipment uptime. The turnkey preservation lines are usually complemented with specially designed transport systems, a pre-heater, the roller

conveyor shot blast machine, an automatic paint system and a paint drier. At the heart of any preservation line is the shot blast machine, which frequently requires design modifications for blasting the customer-specific parts. This ensures that the parts are sufficiently cleaned (for example according to SA 2,5 standards) to allow problem-free coating with a welding primer. Rösler has supplied a number of recent high-profile projects with preservation lines for steel tubes, including Perwouralskij in Russia and Mittal Steel in the Czech Republic. Since the surface cleanliness requirements were not very strict, the preservation lines were designed without shot blasting. However, a later upgrade with a shot blast machine is possible. Rösler received knowledge of both projects through its sister company in Romania. The customers’ specifications called for coating of the parts with temporary corrosion

protection paint for tubes with a length of 4-13.5m and OD of 133-273mm with a minimum of paint loss. In addition, special information like part length and weight had to be stenciled onto the parts prior to stacking in bundles and packaging. The Rösler engineers – together with technical personnel from Mittal Steel in Ostrava – developed a fully automatic system with a capacity of 164 tubes of 6m in length or 120 tubes of 12m in length  Shot blast systems as part of a preservation line are specially designed for the customer parts. This ensures that required degrees of cleanliness (for example according to standard SA 2,5) are achieved prior to coating the parts with a welding primer
