The company Karl Deutsch was founded in 1949 by Ing Karl Deutsch, and is now managed by the third family generation. It develops andmanufactures products that are applied to non- destructive testing of materials by means of ultrasonic, magnetic particle and dye penetrant testing. The portfolio includes mobile devices as well as large testing systems for stationary inspections. A key market for Kalibre Boru’s seamless and welded precision tubes is the automotive industry, so ultrasonic testing is an important test procedure for quality assurance. Operations director Aytaç Ünlü is responsible for the project, and placed the contract with Peter Schulte, responsible for the sales of ultrasonic testing systems at Karl Deutsch. The Echograph-HRPR testing system is an established concept for the high-speed inspection of seamless and ERW-welded tubes. The pipes are transported in a linear manner through rings of ultrasonic probes within an immersion tank. For this project, two probe rings for the detection of longitudinal defects are applied: the first ring contains probes that transmit sound clockwise into the pipe; the second ring transmits sound counter-clockwise, ensuring full coverage of the testing volume.

The probes are mounted into cassettes, which must be designed in accordance with the pipe diameter. The diameter range of 40 to 120mm can be inspected by using two cassettes.
