The production capacity of Tuberías Procarsa will be increased by 200,000 tons per year thanks to the Schuler system. Schuler is an international company, designing and producing tube forming technology. It offers presses, automation solutions, tools, process expertise and service for the entire metalworking industry and lightweight automobile construction. Customers include automobile manu- facturers and automotive suppliers as well as companies from the forging, household appliance, packaging, en- ergy and electronics industries. Schuler is also a designer and producer of coin minting presses, and implements system solutions for the aerospace, rail transport and large- dimension pipe manufacturing sectors. After recently acquiring toolmaker AWEBA and the majority stake of Chinese press manufacturer Yadon, Schuler is present in 40 countries with around 6,600 employees.

The spiral mill forms the diameter and welds the spiral pipe within the first step by tack welding. In a further process the final pipes will be welded by several final welding stands with a submerged arc welding process. An innovation from Schuler is the integrated coil preparation stand. It ensures short changeover times, high occupational safety and an exact 90°

production capacity in South Africa MOLECOR, a developer of molecular orientation technology applied to the conveyance of water under pressure, has expanded the production capacity of oriented PVC pipes (PVC-O) in South Africa, with the installation of a second manufacturing line. The company and its partner Sizabantu Piping Systems Pty Ltd have already supplied thousands of kilometres of PVC-O pipelines on the African continent, certified according to the specifications of the South African standard SANS 16422. Molecor SouthAfrica was inaugurated in 2016 with the implementation of a production line for PVC-O pipes, and a year later, the production capacity is doubling with the start-up of this second production line. The plant, located in Richards Bay (KwaZulu-Natal region), now has a production capacity of 8,000t/year in the manufacture of TOM ® PVC-O pipes under the licence of Molecor technology, for the southern African countries. With this expansion the company will have access to large water projects with water pipes of large diameters and high pressures, manufactured with the Molecor technology, which allows the automatic production of TOM PVC-O pipes with pipe-to-pipe quality control, ensuring the reliability of the product throughout its useful life.

Tube India, Metallurgy India and wire India join forces for the seventh time

The numbers of visitors rose substan- tially at the previous events in 2016, and next year is expected to attract over 12,000 trade visitors to the Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre. A production hall 55m in length houses a connected sheet metal manufacturing line, the centrepiece of which is a high storage bay that supplies materials to the machine tools connected to it. A skywalk spans the production hall, offering a bird’s-eye view of the factory and enabling those who stand on it to comprehend the production systems as well as their material and information flows as a whole. It is part of the self- supporting steel ceiling structure that was manufactured by one of Trumpf’s customers in Atlanta. The showroom was designed by Berlin-based architecture firm Barkow Leibinger. Trumpf increased its sales in the American market by 14 per cent in the past fiscal year, to €421mn – making the US the company’s second-largest market after Germany. The company plans to continue expanding in this market over the long term. Opening the smart factory in Chicago was a key milestone in this endeavour. In this regard, Ms Leibinger-Kammüller warned against protectionist tendencies: “Our industry needs free markets like people need air to breathe. Free and fair trade as well as the exchange of specialists and talented individuals are the only way to improve the standard of living for all people – whether in the US, in Germany or elsewhere in the world.”

The previous event in 2016 featured many international stands from Germany, Austria, Italy, the US and China, as well as a large number of Indian companies and firms from India’s immediate neighbours. The parallel character of the three trade fairs produces valuable synergies for exhibitors and visitors. The forthcoming event will be the first one in India to include exhibitors from the area of fastener technology with a dedicated show – the Fastener Special Chicago is at the centre of the North American market for sheet metal processing. Some 40 per cent of the entire sheet metal processing industry is based in directly neighbouring states. “For us, America is one of the most important markets there is. And in Chicago, we can present our vision for connected production to our customers in the Midwest practically at their doorstep – and work with them to drive forward connected production in the Industry 4.0 era,” said Nicola Leibinger- Kammüller, chief executive officer of the Trumpf Group, at the opening of the smart factory before 250 invited guests. Trumpf opens smar t factory in Chicago MACHINE tool manufacturer and Industry 4.0 pioneer Trumpf has opened a new technology centre in Chicago, USA. It is the first smart factory for Industry 4.0 solutions that was designed for digitally connected production processes throughout.

Investments for the facility, which covers more than 50,000ft 2 , totalled €13mn in construction investment and €13mn in equipment investment. This smart factory will focus on consulting and training customers as they introduce digitally connected production solutions. To this end, the company designed a factory that intelligently connects the entire sheet metal process chain – from the initial order for a sheet metal component to its design, manufacture and delivery.

Unison to open US manufacturing facility TUBE-bending solutions provider

has been investing heavily in research and development in robotics, lasers and software, and during 2018 will be bringing several new products to the US market. Unison has been providing tube bending solutions for more than 40 years, working closely with customers to design and build pioneering tube bending technology.

BLM group presents latest innovations BLM Group recently hosted Intube, the company’s biennial open house in Levico Terme, Italy. The event allowed guests to view BLM Group’s entire range of tube processing innovations and its Industry 4.0 concept.

‘Changing the point of view’ has been a topic the BLM Group has been working on for many years: to consider production as a whole, instead of the effect of successive, independent and disconnected processes, and to shift attention from the individual processes to the finished piece and from the machine to the product. During Intube XVII, guests witnessed the BLMelements software suite import a three-dimensional model of a finished product and identify the individual processes of laser cutting, bending and cutting in order to assign them to the various production systems. The programmer is able to intervene, if necessary, but will always be able to see the piece as a whole, without the need to process individual steps or consider what happens upstream or downstream, since BLMelements does it automatically for them. One of the key concepts of Industry 4.0 is integration. It is not enough to design with only the finished product in mind. It is important to integrate the various stages of the production process. It is essential the machines communicate with each other to obtain the best result in as little time as possible. A production

US Representative Rob Woodall presented Winton Machine Company, manufacturer of over 100 different tube and coax fabrication machines, with a US Commercial Service Export Achievement Award at a ceremony at the company’s headquarters recently. The Export Achievement Award was created by the US Commercial Service (CS) to recognise small and medium-sized enterprises that have successfully entered the international marketplace for the first time or that have successfully entered a new foreign market with CS assistance. Winton Machine was founded in 1997 by company owners George and Lisa Winton, in the basement of their home in Lawrenceville, Georgia, USA. The company started by designing and building dedicated hand benders, and in less than a year found the basement full of machinery equipment and supplies. “We had a vision of becoming a local manufacturer that could bring jobs toGeorgia,” said LisaWinton. “Manufacturing has such a wide supply chain that we knew we could make a difference to our local economy. Working with the US Commercial Service helps a small manufacturer like Winton Machine manage the myriad of regulations necessary to export and identify possible pitfalls that can be encountered when entering new international markets.” In 2013 the Winton team participated in the Small Business Development Center’s ExportGA programme, where they learned about the basics of exporting and available services from the US Commercial Service, including global market research, risk mitigation and export compliance. “Export compliance was identified as a critical component to achieving Winton’s global objectives,” explained George Tracy, director with the US Commercial Service. “Leveraging our best practice export methodology, we enable companies to become proactive, global exporters while ensuring they understand the various requirements for exporting.
