Smart storage systems for an efficient tube and bar logistics procedure STORAGE technology and digitalisation were the focus of the KASTO’s exhibit at the recent LogiMAT trade show 2023 in Stuttgart, Germany. The storage system specialist created the ‘smart solutions corner’, a separate area, enabling visitors to explore the world of Industry 4.0. The exhibit also featured components of the tried and trusted tower storage systems Unitower and KASTOecostore for bar stock and sheet metal. Thanks to new and smarter features, these systems make work easier. Intralogistics require new solutions and methods to meet customers’ ever-increasing demands for speed and flexibility while withstanding the high pressure to keep costs low. KASTO, a storage, sawing and handling technology specialist, demonstrated the potential of digitalisation in its ‘smart solutions corner’ at LogiMAT. Many companies already rely on fully automated bar stock storage systems that offer benefits such as high storage density, short access times and maximum inventory transparency. With KASTOlogic, users can manage and monitor not only the processes in the warehouse; they can also uniformly manage and monitor the logistics and processing steps before and after. Even manually operated areas can be integrated into the system using the KASTOlogic mobile app. The user can transfer all procedures such as storage and stock transfers, picking orders, shipping and inventory data to the WMS via smartphone or tablet. KASTOlogic mobile can easily be used to implement even a so-called ‘pick-by-crane’ system. The user utilises the app to commission a connected indoor crane to automatically position the desired keyboard-operated storage and removal procedures using the respective coordinates. The tower storage systems from KASTO were a second highlight at the LogiMAT. With their new functions, these systems make work easier for the operators. For example, the Unitower bar stock and sheet metal storage system is available with an integrated pick-by-light function. By using a light beam, this system guides the operator intuitively to the required item. This saves a great deal of time while preventing errors. The UNITOWER storage system is controlled by KASTO’s in-house developed ProControl and ExpertControl. KASTO’s sophisticated service concept ensures high availability: this includes round-the-clock telephone consultation, a quick supply of spare parts, skilled on-site support and remote Internet monitoring.
