Weld purge monitoring

HFT’s PurgEye 200

THE portable PurgEye ® 200 weld purge monitor is designed to meet the needs of higher welding specifications requiring oxygen levels down to as low as ten parts per million (ppm). The handheld PurgEye 200 from Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT) is totally waterproof and dustproof. It has warning icons on the large screen to show low battery and low sensor conditions, and also displays oxygen readings in percentage or in ppm very accurately down to 10 ppm. Luke Keane, distributor support for HFT, said, “Weld purge monitors are an essential instrument to help obtain non-oxidised, zero-colour welds by monitoring the oxygen level when welding metals such as titanium and zirconium where high quality and high strength welds are required. “the PurgEye 200 also finds a place with those making important zero-colour joints in stainless, duplex and chrome moly where a metallurgically pristine weld is produced with the help of high quality purging.” the PurgEye 200 contains an internal electro-mechanical pump for automatically drawing samples of purge gas over the sensor before discharging it to the atmosphere. The lifetime sensor eliminates the need for changing cells every year or so, as is the case with wet cell instruments. Alarm signals can be given by the PurgEye 200 to show when the oxygen level is within or outside the required ppm range. HFT has a range of PurgEye weld purge monitors to measure oxygen levels from atmospheric content (20.94%) down to 1 ppm (accurate to 10 ppm), at which point no discolouration in welds of any kind should occur. By striving for zero-colour welds, companies can eliminate the post- weld cleaning costs of oxidised welds.
